RIP original windshield. 25,000 miles.

Fell victim to a rather large rock while going 80 mph.

Lost mine as well.... 39,500 miles.
A small stress crack developed so I figured I ....jump on it right away.
Here's the kicker
I fortunately have free glass... so I had (2) guys come and install a new PPG windshield...while I was messing round online....and busy w/ stuff..
I look at the finished ..job....
and....
you know there's an...and....
There are scratches ...on the brand new windshield...
My statement to these "gentlemen" was as follows: (rediculous as it sounds now to repeat it )... when they put in a new heart in a transplant patient.... do ya think..they check whether or not it works..b4 they start....!!!!!
Now I'm told I have to wait a week for it to " cure" then next Tuesday ...I'll get another windshield...
Totally ....rediculous.... it never ceases to amaze me how incompetant some people can be ????

Peace,
D

Wow! Hope the new one lasts as long.

Bummer. There must be something with the glass because I thought only diamonds were hard enough to scratch glass.

Anything harder than glass (steel, rocks, etc.) will scratch glass if a pointed edge is dragged across it. Diamonds, the hardest of all substances, are the extreme example and should be able to scratch any solid.

Where is everyones crack? Windshield crack, that is.

Mine starts center bottom and goes straight up for about 4 inches and then moves to the right. I read on M2, someone had a simular crack to mine. Along with what appears to be a rock chip along the crack. There is speculation that the chip was caused by the crack. Anyone else have a simular crack???

Modern auto glass has some sort of coating on them and they will scracth. The new cars we get in have a warning not to use razor blades to remove stickers. If you notice they water spot just as bad as the paint does and 00 steel wool will not take them off.

Just got a call today and they told me while they were installing my new windshield it cracked and now I have to wait for another to come in. I told him I better have it done by tomorrow or they will not be happy to see me when I get there. Its been ther for four days now. These service places are unreal !!!!!

Dennis I feel for you buddy. They are just as f*****-*p here as they are in NY.
