Hello all. Can anyone who has a bike rack for the back of thier MINI help me out?

I am getting my MCS in a few weeks.. and will then be taking a 4 hour road trip to Cape Cod with my wife. I will want to take our 2 mountain bikes with us. I know that there are some great roof rack options.. but they all seem to work out to around $600 or more. Since I will probably only need to transport our bikes a few times per year, this seems like alot to spend... and it seems like the racks for the back of the MINI are much cheaper.

Can anyone suggest a good one? And do they do any damage or leave any marks on the back of the car? Any reason why I shouldn't get one and should go for the more expensive roof racks?

Thanks!!

At $800 it's even more than the roof rack, but it looks trick, and I've heard nothing but happy people. Plus it allows other items to be installed once the basic "ports" are installed.

Yeah.. the Sportlink looks pretty cool.. but I don't think I will have time to have that installed before our trip. So I need to order something that I can install myself on the day that we leave.

Thanks.

The Saris "Bones" 3 bike rack seems to be the best. The 3 bike version is more stable than the 2 bike...Mike

hiya,
classic mini in ohio just told me that there is a boot mounted bike rack for the mini now made for the mini. its about $200 i think. i was going to order one but i have the mini roof rack and so it makes sense to use the bike rack for the roof rack, which by the way is a great rack to use. i used it for carrying skis this past winter. so give them a call, they also have the best oem prices. hope this helps.

You can get a Yakima Mighty Joe for under $100. It's made for 3 bikes, but I wouldn't put more than 2 on there.

It's very stable. Although, if you're on a long trip, make sure to check the straps during your stops; they might loosen just a little.

Just make sure you put them on a clean car. The Mini gets really dirty in the back.
