or wait for the 2005 S?

Now that July is around the corner and for those who haven't gotten a chance to order their cars yet, would you get a 2004 or 2005 S? My MA said that the plant has cut down on production of 2004 cars for the next two months to prepare for 2005 models, that means a longer wait for me. Originally, I was going to wait about 6 to 8 months, now it is looking more like 10 to 12. The dealership was expecting to get allocated 35 cars this month but only received a handful.

Should I start looking out of state?

For the extra 7 ponies, might as well! However, if you just can't wait, go for th 04. Classic MINI is a great place to start if you're purchasing out of state!

I emailed Julie and am waiting on her response. I wonder how long the wait is for a 2005 S?

BTW, your Mini looks awesome!

>>I guess it depends on how lazy or impatient you are!

Why would I be lazy? I don't get your joke, maybe it's my sense of humor or lack thereof.

Do you really consider the MCS to become a "rice" car? Any car can be a "rice" car as long as you put ugly MODS on it.

I ordered a 2004 mostly because I didn't want to wait for a 2005. After seeing the differences in the 2005 year I’m glad I didn’t wait.

7 hp- Nice but not a big deal. Can add after market parts to gain more hp.

New head and tail lights- Like the current head lights better and went with the white tail lights so that was not a factor.

3 piece dash- Not a factor, I actually like the 5 piece look.

Interior door and mirror changes- Not a factor as the changes look to just for the sake of change and no real or very minor differences.

New center chrono gauge- I would not order this option, like the spedo where it is.

New grill, front and rear bumper covers- went with the aero kit so this was not a factor.

New key- Whatever

I say get one now if you don’t want to wait and save some $$ by doing so. I’m only 7 long days away from delivery of my 2004 MCS. I got it in one of the Ultimate Classic group buys. Can’t say enough good things about Julie Saxa and all the folks at Classic MINI. For my money this has been the best car buying experience I have ever had.

>>this is only becuase we are IN this forum. The re-sale values drop, Mini's are totaled, lemoned, traded in etc. Their values are not listed.
>>I recall on ebay, somewhere in California, that a junkyard was selling MINI motors for under $3000... sent an email to them and that price came with the entire car, which was totaled.
>>
>>There are ways and means. The pricing will drop as with any vehicle. It's pretty hard to deny that. Once off the lot, the value drops.

I get your drift. I'm sure a lot of Mini lovers out there don't really care. It's all about personal preference.

Just wait. What you give up in motoring time you more than regain in resale and desirability depending on what options/color you get.

Got the ’04 MCS in Feb. Knew that’d it be only a few months before news of the ’05, but went anyway. I don’t think the updates make a whole lot of difference – and more importantly, I’ve had 2 great months of motoring so far. Once you’ve gone to the dark side you can never go back to normal cars. Feel the power of the force now…

Well, we don't have a choice, really. Our dealer has no more allocation of 04's so when we finally get a build date it will be an 05. The changes don't really bother us - everything changes and nothing remains the same. At least we'll have one of the first of the 05 model year - and we might even try one of the new colors.

I hope you'll grow to accept us 05's!

Go for the 2005 model. You will benefit from all of the engineering and 2005 model changes.

I was impatient and when I ordered (late March) had no idea the changes were going into effect starting July production.

But, that being said, I anm glad I got a 2004 as I don't like the 2005 changes. BUT, for resale value purposes, a 2005 would be better. Your choice!

For me, the idea of waiting until fall is excruciating. Now I only have to wait to this time next month!
