Got the dreaded Airbag light illuminated tonight. (This used to say ABS)

I'll check the seats since I was at a party, and let people rummage through the MINI while I was drinking (and talking. sheesh)

If it's still on, I'll call the dealer and let you all in on the scoop later in the week.

You mean "airbag" light, right? I used to have an "ABS" (antilock braking system) light on my Nissan...and when that came on, it signaled the death of my antilock braking system control unit (and a $500 repair bill).

You're probably right about the damage done by letting people mess around inside the car. A few well placed, yet unintentional, kicks to under the seat; or a bit too rigorous sliding forward the seat will trigger the light. Let us know if you (with your electronic wizzardy) figure out how to reset the system/light without a trip to the dealer.

BTW, once it's on, it won't go off regardless of whether or not you correct the fault. The system needs actually to be reset.

 

Oh, thanks Jsun. I'll try sending the OBD-II reset code and see if it goes off.

Sometimes tht code just resets the engine computer and sometimes it resets all the computer error codes.

I'll let you know.
