2005 Brake rotor Crazy Talk
2005 Brake rotor Crazy Talk
Hi: curious if any other 2005 owners experienced the following. I just completed a two day driving school at New Hampshire Int'l Speedway, and after the first run, had some serious groves in front and rear rotors, worse in front...
This is odd to me, because I had a 2004 cooper s, and attended about 8 track schools with that car, and the rotors were always smooth post event while using performance friction 97's race pads. The pads were installed both in front and rear. My understanding is these pads are easy on the rotors. I have been using performance friction race pads for about the past 5 years on my past e30 bmw's and really have had great success.
Detail that are revelant I believe include:
changed from stock pads to performance friction 97 race pads for this event, which I bedded in from 30 to 5 mph, 40 to 5, 50 to 10, 70 to 15, 80 to 15 mph about 5 times, for what I think was a careful bedding in period, with appropriate cooling between braking, etc.
I installed caliper stiffeners at the same time (the one's turner motorsport or tyrol sell)
The other issue is that these pf97 pads are the same ones I used on my 2004... The first bedding in stop did produce some sparks which I could see as it as very early morning and I was driving to the track. I haven't seen sparks before when bedding in pads, but I haven't bedded in pads in the dark before.
It almost seems as if the 2005 brake rotors are softer than my 2004 rotors....
Any thoughts on this?? I like the PF97 pads, well at least I did when using them on my 2004 cooper s... the compound is predictable to me and it is nice to be able to have a race pad for both front and rear, which isn't always possible with other race pad brands.. Anyone else experiencing this apparent soft rotor thang... I do plan to get cryo treated rotors at some point, but my car has only 4k on it and I wanted to take mini up on their brake rotor warrenty....
Thanks for any input....
