Really? Come on...

I was just quoted $130 by one of my local Illinois MINI dealers to turn on my computer... you know, the one on the turn signal stalk?

Right now mine only has temp and mph, I wanted the rest.

I was told "If I have all the parts installed, it would be $130."

That seems a little high to just plug the car in and do a quick update.

I'm going to have to check a few other dealers to see if I can get a better price. Might even check the one in Grand Rapids since I'll be there in August. Although I hoped to get this done before my long trip...

Didn't want to hear a price like that today... got too many other things to do to the MINI!

Some dealers may charge less, but $130 for programming is not unusual at a dealer. You might try to see if any members in your area have NCS Expert. Does your turn signal stalk already have a button on top?

Really? I was hoping for somewhere near $50 or so...

Yeah, I have the stalk with the button on top, so it's just a matter of turning it on.

I've contacted another dealer to see if I can find a deal someplace. If they all price out at $130, then I'll go back to the original one because it's closest.

I feel like I should be getting more for $130 though... just seems pretty steep.

Its not so much the time as the equipment and dealer overheads that push the price. Do the think the dealership uses a $50 cable and a $200 lap top? They may be able to do anything else you want to change at the same time for the same price too.

I'm sure they don't.

My thoughts on the whole things was customer service. It's a pretty simple matter to hook someone's mini up to a computer and change a few settings.

So you combine this with a simple diagnostics for your customer for about $50 and guess what you have? A happy customer in your showroom. Browsing and looking at your new vehicles and accessories. You may or may not make extra sales, but the fact is you have them in your showroom. That's the first step.

Hmmm...I'm new to the mini world and was wondering what else you wanted "turned on". I've got the button also and was wondering what else I could access besides speed/temp. (04' S) Thx
