Wheel stud question..

I've done a search with conflicting answers, so here I am. I just picked up some montegi and found my stock studs are to big, they don't fit in the holes. So I'm wonder what thread pattern ill need, I'm thinking I will need 12mm X....... But I'm hoping someone here has ran into this and can tell me what i need. Thanks for your guys help!

What you describe does not add up.

2006 MCS should have M12x1.5 lug bolts OEM. The bolt locks the wheel onto the hub.

What you describe is your lug bolts are too thick for the new wheels which suggests you have a 2007 R56 MCS using M14x1.25 lug bolts.

In any case you should email Way at Waymotorworks.com, he sells the various studs to fit.

Sorry, like I said I'm not sure what I need as the only two sizes I see for the bolt/stud style we have are 12mm and 14mm, I'm thinking now that its the diameter of bolt it self not the head? I'm used to the stud being on the hub. Thanks for you reply.

In the latter part of '06 the bolt size was changed to 14mm.

All bolts are M12 x 1.5 for MINIs with production dates up to 7/11/2006. After that it went to M14 x 1.5

Just open up the holes in the wheels. A 19/32 drill will work fine and give you about 1mm of clearance with the stud. You can do it with a hand drill but is best to use a drill press.

Yes, you can drill out your wheels to make the holes bigger but be sure to be perpedicular to the level ground. If using a drill press you have to lift up the wheel.

Otherwise you can use this stud conversion kit-
http://www.waymotorworks.com/m14-to-...rsion-kit.html
You install the 14mm side into the hub and use the 12mm side to mount the wheels. You'll need M12x1.5 lug nuts to fit the new studs, you wheel will fit fine.

If it were me, I'd take the wheels to a machine shop if drilling them were the only solution. The lug holes must be centered very precisely, and I don't trust myself to get it perfect... Maybe I worry too much.

I'd call Way at waymotorworks.com first. I'm pretty sure he has a kit to convert lug bolt size, and knows MINI Coopers as well as anyone you'll find. (He helped me a lot, and I bought some other stuff from him)

It's not about drilling it out to make bolt go in the holes, it's about the tapered part of the head not fitting into the hole on the wheel.

Then the rims you are using needs either
1) tuner lugs...they have smaller ends...gorilla makes them...I have a set for one of my rims...
or
2) a stud conversion.....
either one must be in 12 or 14mm diameter to fit your production date...mini changed mid 2006.
