Tonight was MINI of Towson's (MD) second 'MINI Night', where you have a chance to get together with your MINI brethren at the dealer, and the dealer gives you some hands-on and how-tos on caring for and working on your cars. Everyone had a chance to talk with the service managers, the techs, various other dealer honchos, etc. MINIUSA was even there, as well. All in all, a very satisfying and informative even that makes me glad that I got my car from them.

One of the little bonuses was a shiny new MC40 on display for everyone to ogle and check out. I took a few pics and I am sharing them with y'all.

Freshly unveiled!

Yea, I saw one yesterday in Darien.

The must read is the description of the "Monte Carlo Commemerative Package".

The writers must have soiled themselves several times while creating it. Mini/BMW must think us Yanks are the biggest bunch of fools to pay $7,000 for that refuse.

Isn't it just a MCS with some cosmetic mods? Who would pay that much more for that? Keep the 7K and use it for some real mods!

Yep, it's a standard MCS with selected factory options and 'exclusive' cosmetic items. No other factory options can be ordered either, you are limited to dealer/post factory installed options. Limited edition, I believe only 1000 are being made, so typical of anything collectible, the price is high, the value being mostly in it's uniqueness.

So you could pretty much order a base CR/W MCS, add on some red/black leather seats, emblems, and CF dash and you get a MC40. Oh yeah, I forgot the R90s.

That's a pretty stripped down MCS for $27k. You don't even get auto ac, sunroof or mfsw. I'll pass.

Yeah, I think those pics secured my carbon fibre dash purchase. Howver, I noticed that the car I saw at the dealer with the CF kit did not have the piece of CF that's on the airbag cover.

However, it alsso missing the bast part of the kit; the CF pieces that run along the door trim.

The MC40 is virtually identical to my '04 MCS...it has the same chrome bits, etc.

Nice but I much prefer my own "MC40" custom version!

The current CF kit is nothing but a sticker.

The upcoming JCW CF dashboard will be a direct replacement for the entire dash. It'll retail somewhere close to $1000

Gabe (as usual) is correct. If you look at the pictures of the current cf trim kit, it is simply a adhesive applique which is placed over what you currently have. There is no cover for the air bag panel or the panel behind the tach. The appliques don't completely cover the current trim either. The MC40 pieces are 'fully' CF, and involve the entire dash panel set, but there is no CF along the doors.

Thanks! I think I'll be sticking with the current kit, considering the price difference and the fact that the doors are the best part.

Did anyone else notice that the shift **** is not matte chrome as listed on the sticker but a "regular" MCS ****?

Yeah, someone must have ripped it off and substituted a regular S ****. Nice to see the chrome mirrors/grille on a CR, as I've just received the mirror covers from Classic and plan to install them tonight. Still considering the grille. The CF does look nice IMO, even without the doors. Nice to see the airbag covered.

Greatbear - I saw it last night, too. Too bad the tech manager (who now needs the "manzier" and wasn't quite so hefty last MINI night) talked about how it was lighter than the garden variety MCS. Shocking they went to all that trouble to save weight (if indeed it's true) and then used the second-heaviest set of rolling stock manufactured by MINI... I couldn't take his pulpit-babble and left before the raffle.

IMHO it would have been a lot cooler to see the Cooper Works package for a MC. The MC40 just doesn't do it for me...sigh...

The MC40 package is largely appearance oriented. For $7000 I guess it may have collector's appeal.
Another thought is how it doesn't touch those upgrades seen in the JCW kit upgrade for $6000. So in theory some "Lucky" new owner could get an MC40 and add JCW kit to it. $1300 more than stock but you get the performance benefits and warranty and the appearance package. Naturally the other way to do it is get the MCS of your choice with the packages you like then add the JCW kit then add the MC40 type look but only the bits you are missing due to having the premium or sport package originally. That would not be an official MC40 for collector's purposes though.
You'd save lots of money, even if the wheels and CF dash are expensive.

last time i checked this was a car forum, not a political one. i personally have strong feelings against g.w.b. and would rather not see his face plastered all over my favorite mini forums.

Don't know the price ... 700 pounds is in my head but no idea if correct. You could call John Cooper Works in England and ask them.
This web page lists the part number for the left hand drive car as 51450305524.

To contact them:
Tel: 44 (0)1903 784784
Fax: 44 (0)1903 787722

>>those aren't seat covers but actual red leather seats. The leather was extra thick and of much high quality in the prototype that sat in.
>>
>>BTW you should be able to order pretty much ever add-on you see (except the seats) on the MC40 from the parts counter if you know who to talk to

Hate to argue so soon after joining the board but if you look at the window sticker, it states that the interior is Space Cloth and that those are, in fact, seat covers.

Also, while at my local MINI dealer today, I was looking at the MC40 there. I asked the same question and was shown that they are indeed covers with standard seat cloth underneath.
