R50/53 limited slip differential on Mini?
I wasn't sure whether this should go in this forum or the technical forum. Do either the MC or MCS have limited slip differential or are they just standard axles? I didn't see anything on the specs on the Mini website.
Santa, thanks for the info but traction control isn't the same thing as limited slip differential. Traction control basically has a sensor that limits the amount of gas and even applies the brakes on a slipping tire. But only ONE tire will spin. Not to get into too much detail, but limited slip differential has a spring pack and clutches in addition to the standard differntial. Basically when one tire starts spinning faster than the other, the torque that is required to overpower the clutches will be applied to the other wheel as well (ie, both tires will then move). Best way to test this, is if one front tire is on ice and the other front tire is on pavement, will both tires get power.? If the tire on the ice just spins and spins and you don't move forward, then you don't have limited slip. Or if you are doing a burnout from a stop, do you see black marks from both front tires or just one? I don't see limited slip on too many front wheel drive cars, that's why I asked. I was just curious.
