So I was teaching my girlfriend how to drive a manual today, in my new MCS. I want her to learn and I think everyone should learn, its just a good skill to have, especially if there's some kind of emergency and you have to drive a car with a manual tranny. So we're in this big parking lot, and I'm starting slowly. I have her in the passenger seat and show her how to shift through gears, then I have her try shifting while I drive, to get the feel for it. And then I had her sit parked in the driver seat, going through the gears, taking it very slowly. So then we try actually taking off in first. I said to her, "Okay, now give it a little bit of gas, and then let out the clutch slowly." What does she do? VROOOM she takes it up to about 4500 RPM and just drops the clutch. A very nice burnout ensued. It scared the crap out of her, she wouldn't drive anymore I've always wanted to do a burnout in my new car, just didn't think she'd be the first one to do it!

I'd take the car back to the dealer as something is wrong with it. Your car should not have been able to do a smoky burnout if your ACS/DSC was active. Instead, it would have sensed the wheel slip and reduced power to the wheels. Thus, you may have had a slight chirp or squeal of tires, but that's about it. I did do some nice burnouts on my MCS when I turned off the ASC.

The DSC was off. I thought the same thing, but sure enough it was turned off. I guess I forgot to turn it back on from earlier in the day when I was messing around with it. I hardly ever look at the center speedo so I didn't see the light.

Its interesting about the DSC though, when I was at the dealer and they were showing me all the switches, they were like "Don't touch this switch, ever." I mean come on, don't treat me like I'm an idiot

Very funny, but careful about these 'burnouts' specially during the break in period.

A little off topic, but I must admit, while renting a BMW 325, I disabled the DSC (equivalent) and had many crazy drifts and donuts on the wet backroads of Germany!!
My dealer told me the same thing, right after we got finished talking about him racing his own Cooper S around the Nurbergring, aftermarket pulleys, swaybars, etc.
I just gave his a silly look, and he said they're supposed to tell all customers not to touch that switch!
