R50/53 MINI as only car?
I've been living with the MINI as my only car without any problems.
It's actually been MORE useful than my previous car (2000 VW Jetta VR6), because the hatch allows me to fit much larger objects into the car.

My gf's mini is her daily driver, and it's a show car

I replaced my Talon with the MINI and it's more than practical as my daily driver. A couple of times I've borrowed a truck from people I work with to pick up or drop off something REALLY big, but I can do that living 3 miles from work.
My wife's car is an Outback sedan.

Not my only car, but it is my only running car and daily driver. My 3 yr old son has no problem climbing in and out of the back seat. Plenty of room for grocery shopping, Costco runs, etc.
My wife has a 328i sedan, but when we go out on weekend we take my MCS.

I have a MC as my only car. Luckily my family is great and I have had access to other cars also. I really don't think I would have it as my only car again. Once this one goes back. It is a pain in the *** when the car has to go in for service and you have no choice but to take off from work for the day. I love the car but it hasn't been reliable enough to be an only car. I am still wondering how reliable they really are. When ever someone ask on here you get a bunch of people saying no problems when they are still under 10,000 miles. Not that I have gotten to 10,000 miles yet but still had a million problems.
I would consider it a 2nd or 3rd car. realistically speaking, if you carry
more than one person and luggage, it is more convenient to have a
car with 4 doors and a larger trunk. Like a Mazda3 or something.
But I enjoy my MCS as my semi-weekend car (use to be my daily driver. )

>>With a car like this, who needs two?!
I have needed 2. My car was in the shop so much. It was in the shop 3 times for over a week. The worst rental car ever is the Chevy Malibu. Avoid that car like the plague.

Daily drive for two years, rain shin and snow.Mrs holdenontoit has a saab hatchback turbo that she loves dearly(thank God)My commute is 66 miles round trip mostly on twisty back roads,When I bought this car ,I held on to the idea that if this was even remotely as much fun as my 1968 cooper s,that i would treat this purchase as the last car i would ever buy, nursing it along, replacing motors, having it painted forever.I have a moulton bicycle too ( sir alex moulton designed the hydrolastic suspension in the classic minis) and I've had that since 1975(see his web site; alexmoultoncycles.co.uk)So far I am still on track to treat this car as a keeper. Peace
My personal ONLY car is my MCS. Mind you, I'm 3 miles from work and I only have 2 kids, whose school is 1 mile from work. I've had her 2 years and only put 14K miles in.
But, I still grin like an idiot every time I wind her up
BTW, there are two country roads here with significant hills and bumps, so much so that I can jump her and catch a little air

>>How many people here have a MINI as their only auto? Is it realistic to consider getting a MINI as a sole vehicle? My girlfriend would have a truck?
>>
Well, if your girlfriend operates a moving company, pumps septic systems, or delivers bread...then perhaps she's got a point. Otherwise, you guys will probably do fine with the MINI.

We have 2 MINIs. My wife's '02 Cooper CVT, daily driver, with 22K miles. I have a '04 MCS with 6,800+ miles. Absolutely zero problems. we have gone in long road trips, taken the family out to dinner, you name it. We don't miss the two big 4 door sedans our MINIs replaced.
We (me, my wife, and our 3 year old) have a Jeep Liberty and a MINI. When we take a trip longer than an hour or so, we take the MINI. The Jeep, at best, returns 20MPG on the freeway, and has to run slower through the mountains.
I use the MINI as my daily driver, and wouldn't have it any othey way.
I think that people fill up as much space as they have available. I know we filled the Jeep for a weekend away last year, but managed an entire WEEK in Florida with the MINI.

It is my daily driver work car, and does the job well. I do have a backup car in case the MINI is in the shop (like now), but it is a 1990 Mustang GT, Kenne Bell supercharged, set up for drifting. Not your best car for daily driving (fuel economy? wassat?! ) so yes, I consider the MINI as my car.
Of course the wife has an Expedition, so any major hauling is covered there...
