Oil choices

So if you could pick your oil for your R53, what would you choose? I am thinking Royal Purple fully syn 5-30 oil.
How about some feedback please!

Tons of threads on this and many have a strong personality about it.

I run Amsoil in both of my cars. I used to run Royal Purple but I actually like Amsoil better. Highly recommend it!

I like redline 5w30, because it was recommended here. IMHO just pick one of these 3, Royal purple, amsoil or redline. They're all good and high end, high quality oils.

I ran Royal Purple in all my Coevettes and never had any problems. I agree on your three recommendations, all good names in oil.
Thanks.

I agree on this one too. The Big Three to me are: RP, Redline and Amsoil.

Actually it is called Castrol Edge and it is not labeled as synthetic.

Motul is also good stuff.

Where did you pull that, I can't find it on their web page. The page states it is synthetic but not fully synthetic.

Good to know. Looks like they do have a fully synthetic oil.

Personally I would get a group 4 or 5 synthetic. Royal Purple is a not a true group 4 synthetic and has been known to cause sheering... Mobile 1 is group 4 but is notorious for losing weight half way through is 5k life and people complain of sheering...

I run 5w-30 Amsoil only and they have 2 styles group 4 and group 5. Be sure to do your research and also take in consideration of where you are living when purchasing the oil you decide to run.

I was for a long time a firm believer that Royal Purple was amazing, but since having major issues in my STI I'll never run it again in any of my vehicles. Redline, Amsoil, or even T5/T6 Rotella has been and always will be on the top of my charts.

German Castrol 0W-30, Mobil 1 0W-40, or BMW 5W-30. All good stuff, and meet the specs. ACEA A3/B3 and LL-01. Use oils that meet the spec, and you're golden.

My filler cap says "Mobil". This, so to maintain warranty. Would that be a bad choice then.............

You will be fine using Mobile 1. I have been using it for years with no issues. Most people change their oil way before the oil breaks down anyway. It is recommended by many auto manufacturers as well.

Fact that mobile 1 synthetic is a group 4 synthetic and right on the bottle says service every 10k miles... this is incredibly wrong. It loses it's weight and separates at 3500 miles... Mobile 1 quality has changed significantly its quality when they let go their first engineering group. Mobile 1 isn't on my TO GO TO oil anymore and hasn't been since 2007.

BMW 5w30 is Mobile 1 fyi. Amsoil in my eyes is the best oil to run for your motor hands down. But I do like some of the diesel oils like T5/T6 Rotella by Shell good ****!

Even though I'm currently running Mobil1, I'm not a big fan of it. That said, this post is so full of fail it is not even funny.
