R50/53 Question For MCS Owners Who Got Rid of Run-Flats
>>I live on an island 40 miles wide and I have a backup car.
People who own MINIS and live in Hawaii should a) not exist and b) NOT BRAG ABOUT IT IF THEY DO!!! Winter is not QUITE gone here in the tundra!!! AAARGHHHH!!!
i ditched the run flats after 13 miles on the new MCS - that is the distanc ebetween the dealer and my family owned gas station (plus hte 3 miles on the car when recieved)
I intend to purchase a spare for longer trips. in the meantime.. Mini roadside?

>>I think robyn should wash that pretty blue car once in a while......can of fix a flat....period.....will use the run flats for most driving out of town driving.....
That is an old picture taken during the Winter. Trust me, Nittany is washed more often than any car I've ever seen...
For run-flat shops, call your local Goodyear shops and ask if they have the newer tire-changers. Ones closer to MINI dealers are likely as the Goodyear RF's were OE. We are lucky that the Goodyear shop near us on Rt 130 (East Windsor, NJ) is a new building with all of the latest equipment and staffed by decent people.
Another thing: For those of you with S-Lites, pull the wheels off the car and get some anti-sieze on the contact surfaces. The first time we took the wheels of the car, the right-front was seized on to the hub and took some doing to get off. Better to futz with it at home in the garage rather than out on the road... at night... in the rain...

Forgive me if this is an obvious question and I'm just assuming too much here with the replies.
As there is a very high correlation between getting rid of the run flats and getting new wheels and tires, I'm a little confused as to whether or not non-run flats will fit on the same wheels.
Do they?

Non runflats are suppose to fit on stock/oem wheels. I think most people ditch the oem rims, at least the 17's, because of the weight of the rim. I read that the stock 17's with runflats weigh 49 lbs. A aftermarket will at 17lbs and a tire that weighs rough 20-22 lbs will total about 37-39lbs. The unsprung weight has been reduced. The only penalty is if you receive a flat tire and it seems this thread addresses that.
I haven't decided whether to burn up the runflats and swap tires, keep the stock rims, or replace them with tires and rims and sell them or keep them as spares. First, I need the car built!
