help needed on building custom R53 grille

Hello All,

Trying to design a custom grille for my 2005 cooper S. I did a quick sketch of my idea. I would like to make a 13 tooth grille. Any idea on how this could be made OR if its been done would be helpful. Thanks.

Are you doing this purely on paper or using some sort of CAD design? You could theoretically produce it from the computer's 3D models.. maybe..

+1 on the design though! I like it!

What kinda of skills do you have....
Using some stainless steel, some welding would work, be durable. You could then polish it, ot paint it!!
Comes down to your skills, and tools.
Folks have made custom lower grils for years using various meshes....often black or painted...since it is not the main focal point on the car, you can getaway with it if it does not turn out perfect......
but the top grill is much more visible....so a higher degree of skill, and accuracy, and better materals would be needed to make it "look right".
Perhaps you can carve up a used chrome upper grill from a wrecking yard....might be a way to modifiy an existing part.

Just remember that there is a vertical support in the middle just behind the stock grill that would be easily noticed if this grill is a simple open design.

As far as my skills, I when to school for sculpture and painting, thats why I work in purchasing and warehousing. I do have some skills and I have some connections at HELIX. I would love to make it out of stainless Steel. I also have a few stock grilles I can use at templates. Thanks for the input.

first thing i would do, is start walking around Lowes and Home depot. look at everything, youd be surprised what is already made that can be slightly modified or just painted to suite your needs!

could go to a junk yard and find the grill from a mini then cut it up and rotate the slats so they are vertical
