Happy Birthday to Pig! Sadly, I cannot remember Dobby's birthday. I'm sure if I go back through the thread a bit, that I will find it!
It's been a YEAR!!!
How about a mileage count?
Dobby has just about 10,000 miles on him...
ETA that THIS very post is my 500th post on the site. How very appropriate.

Pig has a little over 25,000 miles. The motoring has decreased significantly since November, when the roads started to get bad. We've been busy this spring, so less time for road trips
. Hopefully we'll get some more in this summer.
Can you believe this thread has been going this long?

Happy birthday Pig!
Padre was born on May 6 so that's when Dobby was born too.
My bday is May 16th so I should be able to remember Padre's
His mileage is somewhere around 16k but I'll check it at lunch and get back to you crazy Maydayers.
Cheers,

Cheers,
I don't remember Charlie's manufacture date. I've always planned on going by the date that I picked him up - June 16th. Which, if you -really- want to get technical, wouldn't make me a Maydayer, but I prefer not to be that specific.
So what is everyone getting them for their first birthdays? I'm planning on getting the Miltek exhaust installed that day. Maybe the SC pulley and crank pulley so he can be pushing 200hp.

.What can I say? We love this car
Happy Birthday everyone!
Mine was "born" and rolled off the assembly line on the 22nd, so that's when I will be celebrating! I have an autocross planned for sunday so it will be dancing around full of joy.
Glad to see everyone is loving their minis as much as they thought they would a year ago!

For Padre's (and my) birthday I am redecorating Padre's interior with chrome trim, chili red dash, downtubes and door armrests/surrounds. I am also adding the original oem center armrest, auto up windows, the rear brake light mod (finally) and have recently given him boot and bonnet stripes. I will get around to pictures after all the updates are done.
Cheers Maydayers,
Hey MayDayers...this thread popped up while searching for a problem, and even though it's not in here, I figure it would be a good idea to keep each other up to date on any issues we've had, as they might be common amung us.
Yesterday my gas guage stopped owrking for most of the day.
A few months ago I had my steering rack replaced as it was leaking power steering fluid.
My HK amp was replaced last year as it made horribly noises or didn't work in cold temperatures.
I think that's about it so far...over all, the car has been super-reliable. I'm around 28k mi now.

We're fast coming up on our the 2nd anniversary of our build dates:
Brief update re: Ollie's mods
Hope all the may-dayers (and their cars!) are doing well.
Jim
Brief update re: Ollie's mods
- Ollie got rear-ended 2 different times in June & Nov of 04; bingo 2 new rear bumpers.
- Ollie got egged twice last summer, making it necessary to repaint the hood & the driver's side door & rear quarter panel in September
- Ollie caught a rock with his windshield last spring, requiring replacement
- Windshield replacement was done wrong, requiring a 2nd replacement 3 days later
- I caught Ollie's side in an alley, making it necessary to repair & repaint the driver's side door & rear quarter panel in October
- We went through 1 set of tires by June of last year, replaced the s-lites with some 5-zigens & a set of Yoko's
- We won a set of web spokes & tires in October of last year--which have replaced the 5zigens.
- HK Comp rear sway bar, Racing Dynamics strut tower brace, Alta intake & XM radio fitted.
Hope all the may-dayers (and their cars!) are doing well.

Let's see...
Rack replaced
Axle replaced
heated seat repaired
HiD replaced
Steer shaft replaced
all under warranty
Kosei TS1 17x7 rims w/Kumho MX - 10k miles - GONE
SSR GT1s with GY F1 DS3 on there for 5k miles-excellent tires
Some kind of CAI
Alarm
XM
Cooper Flag
Honda Stubby Antenna
Misc interior parts
I have a pulley puller but I still did not purchase a pulley yet.
Can't think of anything else at the moment.
I would like to get a pulley and some suspension parts. That's all for now.
Whoops, I forgot the warranty repairs! I've gotten :
Still loving it, though.
- two power window motors replaced (one for each side) &
- the exhaust heat shield repaired.
- And I've gone through my front brakes---at 23K.
- Also had a speed sensor replaced for the ABS.
- I'm having more trouble with the brakes (feels like another speed sensor?)
- may need the rear brakes done.
- Also had the front seats detailed (found out about the power window motor AFTER it rained

) - May need a new throw out bearing... I'm getting that funky front end squeal at start up.
Still loving it, though.
Today, I found a big piece of metal in the tire. I took it out and I tried to use my air compressor to pump up the tire. I found out my fuse blew. I replaced it and dropped the spare fuse into the body panel! Oh well, the car rattles so much that I won't even hear it.
It's still quite a fun car although after the warranty period all bets are off!
Oops, I forgot that I had a motor mount replaced under warranty.
oops, one more thing. A muffler was replaced because of broken baffles inside. It first acted up when I had 2k miles on it.

Yikes jim! That is crazy. What are you doing to break ollie so much? Having some good fun I guess.
You did remind me my front left axle was also replaced due to ticking, but that may or may not have been because of the accident.

Did I write axle? I meant axle seal. It was leaking for some reason. It might have been something that happened when the rack was replaced. They were trying to track down the clicking/knocking everytime the steering wheel was turned to the left.
I meant to reply to this a while ago...
Pig's total list of problems has been:
1) Flaking paint on the roof (really strange, I thought). Had to have the whole roof repainted, under warranty.
2) 1 replaced windshield. Cost about 300 bucks, since the glass shop waives the $500 deductible even if they aren't billing your insurance.
Aside from that, we're around 35,000 trouble free miles and counting.
Pig did pick up a new accessory, though: a baby seat (and a baby girl to go in it). We brought our daughter home from the hospital in Pig, and she refused to ride in any other car for quite some time. The MINI is a great car for a baby (WannaMini, are you reading this?).
Hopefully by AMVIV next year, our daughter will be up to the drive, and we can get out to more MINI things.

Owen lives
Wow! It's been a long time since I posted to this thread...
We are still loving life with Owen, despite occasional frustrations with the lack of cargo space and, shall we say, lack of long-distance road-trip comfort compared to other, more plush vehicles. But one spurt of twisty motoring solves that every time.
We are now at 35,000 miles at just under two weeks shy of two years.
So far we have done the following under warranty:
--New muffler for broken baffles
--Replaced warped driver's seat back cover
--Replaced clicking steering column
--Several ECU reflashes for choppy idle syndrome
--Front rotors and pads
--Rear pads
--new power steering pump after the original stopped dead (this was the only real PIA failure)
--new key to fix intermittent remote operation
--new oxygen sensor after SES light popped
--driver's seat belt receptacle replaced after sensor failure tripped airbag light
...and that's all that comes to mind at the moment.
Non-warranty has been limited to filling a stone chip in the windshield...that occurred within the first two months of ownership.
Fun stuff has included:
--Parcel shelf
--iPod interface
--MINI driving lights
--Yoko AVS ES100s
Overall Owen is aging fairly well...there's one or two small rattles that I've gotten used to. A handful of stone chips give personality to the bonnet and stripes. I've scratched up the cargo area plastic with a variety of items. That's really about it, knock on wood. The new loaner MINIs I've driven, most recently a 2006 CR/W S, no options, have made me lustful for the popping exhaust, shorter gearing, limited slip and more refined interior (love that waterfall lighting). Still, I hold on to Owen...he's the one I ordered and tracked with such delight...plus he's two years' paid for now.
I figure another MINI wouldn't have quite the same magic that my first one does. And hey--I can retrofit most of that other stuff eventually!
Glad to see so many of us Maydayers are still happily motoring!!

Hi guys! I'm so glad that I subscribed to this thread way back when!
Guess what.........Dobby is still here. :D :D I convinced my husband that the car was safe for our baby boy to ride in (after hours and hours of researching accident stats and proving to him that the MINI is safer than his Nissan). The car seat fits in the back, and in fact, he took his first ride in Dobby yesterday! It WOULD be hard however for someone to ride in the front seat. I'm sorry, I think the shear size of car seats is total overkill. But hey, as long as Ben is safe.......
Here are Dobby's little quirks:
1. He still gets the shaky shakes sometimes. Too much coffee?
2. The OBC keeps resetting itself.
3. Flat Tire Monitor failed. Need to get it fixed.
4. Window was stuck up. I read a thread where a swift punch to a sweet spot on door would fix it. It did and that hasn't happened since.
5. There is a snapping sound underneath the seats when you hit a bump.
6. There is a loose metal sound from the front left whenever you hit a bump.
I think that's about it! Just little quirky type stuff that I can live with! He has 23K miles on him now. He is due for his 25K checkup, and I will have those things addressed....
Great to "see" everyone!!!
