Ohio Highway Patrol....
I know that body color.
It's almost protectivly colored, isn't it?

Drive carefully, please...

Happy motoring.

I hope they slipped out also. Just this past Friday on the way home from work I got clocked at 71 in a 55 (on a very nice curvy road ). The cop didn't hardly ask me a thing, just asked for my license and insurance, went back to his car, and came back about 30 seconds later and gave me a warning and told me to be careful. WOW I thought for sure it would be a $100+ ticket. Not sure if he was happy it was Friday afternoon also.....appreciated me being polite and not arguing....or what.....but I did appreciate it!!!!

The new body color for the Highway Patrol cars is white.
At least that is what I have heard...
Who remembers the quote from Cannon Ball Run about Ohio Highway Patrol?

You know, this weekend *is* the Ohio Pulley Party (in Galion, I think). Hopefully this isn't one of the lucky folks destined for the party or on a "test drive" with the new bits....

Hummm...looks like me; except that I've yet to drive in Ohio in the MINI. But there's a good chance that when I do....

And btw, should that ever happen, I'd not be overly pleased that there was someone snapping pictures of me during my run-in with the law.

Ohio Turnpike cops are notorious for anti-speeding fetishes. One occassional trap they use is to have a guy sitting on a tractor radaring people, then he radios to a patrol car ahead. I remember my laser was going nuts (which on a Passport 7500, warning time is a few seconds @ best), spiked the brakes. I said "wtf, a tractor"? Then I notice a cop sitting in it with a laser gun, clever... 1 mile up, some people were pulled over...

*Sniff* *Sniff* Do I smell bacon? I haven't been pulled over in over 2 years. It's just a coincidence that I've had my white Focus for that same length of time. Oh, happy days are here again (CR/W is due in a couple of weeks)!!

Since we're on the subject check out this great new law in Texas!! This is an email I received a couple of months back.

I was not aware of this law, it does exist. Just happens there was an
article in the San Antonio paper today about it. This story is not about me
but it applies.

Let my misfortune be a lesson for you. This is a long story, but a must
read. This really happened to me yesterday (12/10/03)

Yesterday, I was driving into town along the Southwest Freeway around
12:30 PM. I was in the far left lane doing the posted speed limit of 65 and
going with the flow of traffic. When I got over the Bissonnett/Braeswood
overpass, there was an HPD (Houston Police Department) squad car parked
on the left shoulder with the officer standing out in front of his vehicle
pointing his radar gun at oncoming cars. Your inclination automatically
tells you to slow down, whether you were speeding or not.

Not a 1/2 mile down the freeway, there was another HPD officer that had
someone pulled over on the left shoulder giving the person a ticket. I
thought, man this was an obvious speed trap and kept on going. I had slowed
down to around 60 at that point as now the posted speed limit was 60.

About a mile up the road, around Gessner, another HPD officer had someone
else pulled over to give them a ticket and literally in front of that
traffic stop was another HPD officer (yes we are up to 4 cop cars now in
about a mile) walking around to the front of his car. Just as I was
approaching him, he pointed his radar gun at me and signaled for me to pull
over. I was shocked, because I know that I was going the posted speed limit
(60) as I immediately looked at my speedometer.

The officer came to my window and said "Do you know how fast you were
going?" I said "Yes, I was going 60." He said "You were doing 58." and he
showed me his radar gun, which read 58. I said okay. He said "You failed
to slow your speed down by 20 MPH or move over to the adjacent lane when an
emergency vehicle was stopped in the flow of traffic." I said, I did not
know that was a law (of course that is never a defense) and he said it was
and asked for my license. I offered that and my concealed handgun license
to him (as I am required by law, being a CHL carrier), as well as the
knowledge that I was carrying my pistol under the rear passenger seat. The
officer wrote me a ticket that carries a $200 maximum fine for this
infraction.

Come to find out, this is a new state law as of September 1, 2003. From
the TX DPS (Texas Department of Public Safety) website, the law reads:

SB 193 requires drivers nearing a stopped emergency vehicle that has lights
ctivated, unless otherwise directed by a law enforcement officer, to:
Vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle, if the highway has two or
more lanes traveling the direction of the emergency vehicle; or Slow to a
speed not more than 20 miles per hour (mph) less than the posted speed
limit when the posted speed limit is 25 mph or more; or Slow to a speed not more
than five mph when the posted speed limit is less than 25 mph.

A violation is a punishable by a maximum fine of $200. If the violation
results in property damage, the maximum fine increases to $500. If the
violation results in bodily injury, the offense is enhanced to a Class B
misdemeanor.

How about the amendment to show them the finger when you pull away?

I also have a CWP, and SOMETIMES it actually helps, but it loooks likr you got a **** busting *****.

Sorry to hear.

Last time I got pulled over, when asked for insurance and all I said, "Well officer would you like me to get out of the car as I keep my weapon in the glovebox with all of that?"

He replied, "Well as long as you aren't going to shoot me...."

At that point I knew one thing...... NO TICKET!!!

Ohio Turnpike cops are the WORST! I've had some friends who've had pretty nasty run-ins I feel bad for that poor MINI!

They recently passed a similar law in Georgia. I do not know the exact wording of it, though.

I find much in common with this thread.

1. North Carolina has the same type law where you must change lanes if an emergency vehicle is on the shoulder of the highway.

2. Phobol, My wife and I too have a MCS and an Element. Love our Element, but not as much as the MINI.

Nope, that's not me, it just looks like my car. The ride back from the pulley party was in the dark in an absolutely awful snowstorm! I got 2 really scary rides that day. The first was with Randy, the 2nd was the drive home in the snow. It was snowing so hard the wipers had a big snow pack on them.

Ohio does have that pull over/slow down law, but I don't remember them specifying 20 mph. They want you out of the lane nearest the cop OR slowed down.
