Brake lights not working

I checked ALL the fuses JIC and they're good. The bulb's were good as well and screwed in properly.

Is there a brake switch on this car....2004 R53?

Also blinker's are not working either.

The actual switch is on the brake pedal lever under the dash. Such switches do occasionally go bad. They are not hard to replace, I've done a few at work on some Kia vehicles.

Did the brake lights and blinkers stop working at the exact same time? They are usually separate circuits. Do the hazard flashers work at all?

Make sure it is the right brake light bulbs.....a similar dual filiant bulb will fit, but not work.
if the blinkers are out, and brake lights are both out...sounds like it could be the bcm...but still check fuses and bulbs first....

So the hazards do not work and all the fuses are good to go....and ALSO the "trunk/hood is open" sign won't go away when both are shut. I put the right replacement bulbs in.

Should I try doing the ECM reset?

Ok I just did the ECM reset, didn't crank the car up but turned the key over and am still having no brake lights or turn signals.

I had the same issue with my 02' R53 and found out what it is. When the tail light is removed there is a circuit board in there. That circuit board wasn't making good contact/was a faulty circuit board which had to be replaced. Hope this helps. It may or may not be the problem in your case, but at least it's something else you can rule out.

R53Erf - Where did you get the circuit board replacement from and do perhaps remember how much it cost?

THANKS !
