Wide Arch/Track-long wheelbase R53

Hi to all my pal has been building a 4wd cooper rally car for a customer and decided he would be able to do a track day car too based on the Cooper S 2wd.

After looking the standard suspension Geometry he realised improvements could be made while using the wide arch kit, The track has gone to 1800mm, and the wheelbase up to 2500mm, standard suspension mounts fr and rr have been modified, moved forward and outwards to keep Geometry correct.

Wheels are 8x18 ET35 tyre 225/45s, he has used a 330mm fr and 300mm rr disc and kept the standard calipers, the ride height can be lowered for those special days or for looks.

The car is going to be used daily although track days would bring out the best in it, further information can be found at: DJM-motorsport.co.uk have a look at some of the projects Dave has been involved in.

Sorry about the metric bits.

I like the flares but it looks like they go too high up the side of the car to me. I guess function>form though...

I understand that this mod gives more track width & room for suspension travel but why did you run the same size tires that I have on my unflaired MCS?

Wouldn't wider tires help with the wheelspin problem that high horsepower FWD cars experience?

Good point, the understanding i have is that because the suspension has been moved the weight balance has been moved also, putting more weight over the front where it needs it and because the rear has also moved forward it has placed more weight over the rear spreading it about more or less, i dont think its been done to create wheel travel, as regard wheels and tyres thats up to the owners i suppose more tyre more grip that makes sense, also it sits as road trim at 105mm off the floor..

Cheers bahawton i will pass on your comments, could you do me a big favour, measure from the floor to bottom of the roof gutter around where the door handle is, i can then get an idea of how low it does sit, compared to a sorted car.

Diggin the project man

If you're keeping the same motor I'd replace the upper engine mount, the OEM will shoot hydraulic fluid over the engine bay when you go over that first big bump at speed.

I was just wondering. I was gonna say if you're a rep you should move to vendor status here.

I think it looks awesome from a lot of angles, the angled shots look great and very racy. But for some reason, the front shot looks sorta silly, like it doesn't fit. But that is just my opinion.

Look my car in the background i think the front has more as much to do with Aero than looks i was told there was a reason why it was like that beyond me to be honest.
