i have tried google and it has failed me. and one ebay store has it for over 300. do i dare to ask a dealer how much one is.

i can not figure out for the life of me why the damn thing wont work anymore. i took it apart tried to manual reset the drive so that it would receive a disk but it wont do a darn thing.

Upgrade to an MKIV if you can. They are not cheap and BMW wants over 1K for them You can get one from BimmerNav for 700.

http://www.bimmernav.com/store/catalog/index.php

You might also try the laser repair if you are willing to give it a go. Sometimes they go bad and this is the cheapest of the repair options.

ugh what a PITA.... i might as well do a custom nav install, it will turn out better and be cheaper. the stock nav system is a useless piece of junk anyway. the only thing i ever used it for as to tell my my mpg and range.

Lots of folks (myself included) just pray they don't fail. To be honest, if mine does, I will probably try to convert it to something else.

i think i may go and install a Nexus 7, and have that be my media player/ nav system.

i was looking at building a micro pc but it will cost about $300+ when the nexus 7 is 250 for the 16gb version

What about the new iPad mini? $329's not terrible. The nexus is good too, but if your any sort of apple fan as i, could be a suggestion worth thinkin about.
