R50/53 new member--got my MINI today!
I have been reading this forum for the last week or so and just registered after spending all day "motoring" in my new MINI! I feel a bit guilty reading about all of the long waiting times many of you have. . . I walked into the showroom at Global Imports here in Atlanta one week ago today, fell in love with a Silk Green/White Cooper they had in stock, and drove it home today! I was never a car person at all, and it never really mattered to me what I drove. . . as long as it would get me from here to there. But now I've gone off the deep end and I'm a full-fledged MINI-maniac! I'm 34, this is my first new car, and I love it!!! Looking forward to lots of discussion here with folks who understand.

"I feel your enthusiasm". Welcome to the site. I haven't really been doing alot of "posting" myself, but have enjoyed reading other's thoughts and ideas. I get the impression that Mini owners tend to be a very select and diverse group of individuals.
Congrats! I had a similar experience at my dealer wherein a silk green/white top was available the day I came in. I picked up my mini two days later!! I have received alot of compliments regardign the color.

Same thing happened to me! I had been dreaming of getting a Mini for months, and finaly walked into Westchester Mini, and saw a Silk Green/White on the showroom floor, but a deposit down on it, and picked it up 3 days later! I also have felt guilty that I didnt have to wait like so many others. A friend of mine cursed me up and down, cause she had to wait 3 months for hers! Good luck and enjoy!
You guys shouldn't feel too guilty. The wait is long and difficult, but I think it's well worth it for a mini that's perfectly me. Some people don't mind taking what's available, some are uninformed or under-resourced and have to put up with a wait, and still there are others who are willing to wait it out in order to achieve exactly what we want. I guess in other words, some of us are just picky.
Hmmm. . . I've heard Silk Green has proven to be an unpopular order and here are three of us who got them right off the showroom floor. I wonder if there is some reason dealers ordered a lot of Silk Greens for stock?

Well, personally (I'm the worlds foremost expert on my own opinion) I don't like it because it looks like nail polish. (shrug)

Strange, isnt it? and I have gotten so many compliements on the color, it really seems odd that it was discontinued! My car had been ordered by someone, who ordered the Premium, Sport and Cold weather packages and the chrome bumpers. When she went to pick it up, she said wheres the automatic transmission? They said she never ordered one, so they had to reorder her car with an automatic. That was how I ended up with mine!

Nail Polish? Who are you hanging around with?
My theory on the silk green is that it just doesn't look good on the samples, and may not look all that good on a monotone car. It was an unpopular color for BMW also. But with a black roof, like mine, or white, the silk green becomes something really euro-cool. I never gave SG a thought until I picked up a brochure that had a cooper painted SG/B.
Good for you Greg ! I hope you have the best of luck with your new MINI. Keep watching your mirrors, I finally got the word on mine, it should be here in two months (I've been waiting since May) I heard that they may discontinue the Silk Green in favor of gold.
All MINIs are special, but yours may be even more special. Enjoy !

I agree. I was in the Don Rosen Mini Showroom a few weeks back and they had a Pepper White/Pepper White and Silk Green/Black sitting in the showroom. Trust me when I say this that both of these vehicles look aweful in pictures but are as eye catching and sharp as can be in person. Personally this changed my color choice to Pepper White/Black fom IndieBlue/White. I got the chrome package on the PW and plan on switching out the gas cap for the one on the MCS. If all things go well this should look cool as hell. Will post a pic once the car arirves and everything is done (i.e spring!).
Motor On.

I agree that the Silk Green needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. I saw it one the website and didn't think it was very attractive, but then when I walked into the showroom and saw mine, it knocked my socks off! I'll get some pics up soon. Just over 48 hours into MINI ownership, I am definitely finding what everyone says about the "celebrity factor" to be true--I get questions and compliments everywhere I go, which is really weird for me since every other car I've ever owned was a heap. I work in a high school and one of the students saw it this morning and went running to get a camera so she could have her picture taken with it!
All discussions about MINI and anything else (see Off-Topic forum) are welcome here at MCO! I love the Silk Green MINIs! I wanted one, but hubby didn't like the SG, so we went with the Pure Silver, which I am TOTALLY in love with now! I firmly believe that if MINI had called it "Sage Green" rather than Silk Green, it may have appealed to more buyers. Plus, I agree that the floor-room color chips are ridiculous and the online configurator didn't do it justice. Anyway, you have a groovy new MINI and one that will be a rare color, too!
Cheers!
