installed some GTMat, great results!

as we all know, the minis are notorious for bumps, creaks, cracks, squeaks and of the like. in an ongoing effort to reduce and eliminate said squeaks and creaks, ive gone through all the other "regular" motions: tying everything down, removed loose items from the GB and such, removed my cup holder, ect.

this does some, but after some research i broke down and finally got some of this stuff: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-10-Sq-Ft...4f2b2e&vxp=mtr

it was a nice starting / experimenting amount of material for a reasonable price. it installs Very easily, cuts easily, and is just as easy to work with in general. i lined almost all of the boot, ripped out the back seat and used the rest in that area. took a couple of hours or so.

i was skeptical at first, wondering just how well 8 sq ft would perform (didnt use some just yet), and i have to say Wow! the car is waaay quieter. almost all of the rear shock noises have been absorbed by this stuff. i can still hear the engine and exhaust just fine, but all those little rattles and metalic pings and dings have all but disappeared!

just wanted to share my success with everyone. i recommend this (or similar) to others, its a nice cheap mod that anyone can do, and you see instant results!

Seems really similar to dynamat. Would also advise putting this under the carpet on front bulkhead, on interior rear wheel wells, as well as inside the doors to really quiet down the noise level.

As for interior dash squeaks and rattles or similar squeaks, felt tape works very well!

By the way, how many feet of this did you use in order to cover the boot and hatch?

Yeah I was about to ask how you dealt with the dash rattle. Luckily that's the only one that really really bothers me. Usually its the sound of stuff moving around in my trunk that gets me in that area...

For the interior and dash rattles i took care of mine by taking a couple hours and tightening every bolt and screw that i could find. You'd be shocked at how many of them can loosen up over the years.

Might try some of this inside my door panels and under the rear seats some day. I'll skip the trunk and footwells since i loooooove hearing the motor and the exhuast.

i think it is a dynamat copy. however, ive picked up that dynamat in auto stores, and IMO its Super heavy, while this stuff weighed couple of lbs at most (which i was worried about).

i used almost all 10 sq ft of the stuff. i saved a long strip for doing the inside of the battery box (i was too lazy to remove the battery to put it in there, im waiting for when i have to replace the battery). So, id say, 8 sq ft? but i didnt go crazy like in the installation pics on ebay. Instead, i did Most of the boot, and then look for other areas to put large to small strips on any metal that was just a big blank space, or anything that looked like it would be a good conductor for noise. I didnt do the hatch cover yet, but its really easy to rip up the back seat and slap some in that area.

even after putting it all in, you still can hear the exhaust just as well as before, so in case you change your mind, i dont think itll effect your ability to listen to your minis roar!

ill take pics this weekend. i was just too hot last weekend to deal with that :p

Sounds cool! Pictures would be great if you get around to it! I do highway driving everyday, a good 60 miles or so. This would really help with the tire and wind noise at highway speeds!

Always a project, never enough funds or time lol

Yeah pictures please! I tried tightening up dashboard bolts to reduce rattle but no luck. I'll.probably have to go ahead and buy insulator or felt tape or something to avoid.the bouncing

i am wondering now, if i have made "other noises" more prevalent in the mini... seems like, at over a certain speed (say, 40?) i hear this semi-electronic whine of some sort... and, if i had to guess, id say it almost sounds like the fuel pump?

not sure why i can only hear it above a certain speed, but something is "there", and its starting to get annoying.

so, ive either got something on the outside / rear of the car whistling (already have something on the Front that whistles, drives me nuts, might be the cowl scoops) or ive quieted down the inside of the car to a point where i can actually hear the fuel pump, OR the pump is starting to crap out....

anyone else hear these things?!

I pulled off my dashboard to change out my trim bezel on the speedo, and when I replaced, VOILA! Dashboard rattle, gone.

nice! i have yet to pull off my DB. its not really rattling that much anyway... what IS still driving me crazy, is this Wind Whistle! i stuck foam in my driver side cowl scoop, to see if that was causing it... NO luck :(

now im not sure if its the Airbox, or the windshield wipers, or something else entirely, or the outer A pillars, or if its just how Minis are...

Off the wall theory, but you can get whistle noises from closed a/c vents. If you have your fan blowing on a higher speed and its on the dash outlets but some of them are closed it can cause a whistle.. Doubt that it'll help but just my 2 cents.

I will be calling tomorrow to take you up on that offer!

After replacing my fan relay my cooling fan no longer has to operate on High which has obviously lowered the noise level but I would love to cover the doors and see what difference I notice.

In the end I'd love to put some in the rear sides and hatch area, essentially anywhere not covered by the thick carpet and foam. I think this should drop a handful of db's and make for quieter long interstate road trips

Just called to get the sample. 2 minute phone call and the sample is on its way. In exchange they ask for pictures or video of install with a review to email them back. As with most members on the forum here, we like to take pictures and review products anyways so this will be an easy exchange.

Since astroblack installed his in the boot, I plan on installing in my front doors. I've read threads about how lining your front doors with dynamat helps improve sound clarity with the harman kardon sound system. I've always been disappointed with sound clarity of my h/k system as well so I'm hoping for a little less road noise and more clarity from the front speakers after installing the GTmat product.

I was actually just browsing ebay for some type of dynomat/fat mat and came across this thread. Is the 10sq/ft offer still available? Also, what kind of discounted rate on more are we talking? I am probably going to need more then that down the road as I plan on possibly putting it under the carpets up front as well. Please let me know!
