Dont think it is the exhaust.
The smell is just a smell that appears after hard accelaration.

Does this occur with or without a passenger?

Ha flyin brick thats good stuff.

I would bet that everything just gets piping red hot under hard accel and you're just smelling the cat cookin or any type of corrosion resistant oils on the cat-bacm exhaust burning up.

Anyone thats ever replaced a catalytic converter can atest to the fact that on the first heat cycle production oils etc burn off as the exhaust/cat heat. So long as you have a catalytic converter your exhaust itself should be prettu odorless. This is why I would suspect you're just smelling normal burnoffs.

One last thing, check the condition of your belt, make sure its not glazed or smoking. Also, if your engine bay was ever detailed there will be plenty of shiny grease crap to burn off as the engine bay gets hot.

Had this in my Clubman...not quite an engine smell, not quite a fart smell, but just a "not quite right" smell after hard acceleration. Had my cabin air filter replaced. Smell gone.

A musty basement smell, perhaps? The a/c has a cut-off on full-throttle acceleration that would cause it to warm up a tad, possibly triggering the musty a/c smell.

My car's a/c smells just like my grandparents' basement when the a/c isn't fully cold.

HTH!

Just make sure it isn't the smell of burnt rubber. That might be your crank pulley going.

Depends on the smell...
Smell like brakes.....then it might be a clutch starting to slip...
or burnt oils...just hot surfaces with oil blown back, getting cooked off....
But without quantifying the smell....kinda like saying i hear a noise...

To throw another into the mix,

Coolant boiling over from the expansion tank - bad cap

Had that problem for years until I bought a new cap.

Yeah i hear ya. But dont know what any of the other things smell lik .
Like saying " did the noise sound like a wombat in heat" but i never heard a wombat in heat before lol .

Just wonder if anyone else noticex an extra/stronger smell after flooring it. The smell goes away after a few minutes of regular driving.

Won't help you out but recently i had a bad smell in my car. Found a half eaten apple pie in a 7-11 bag that someone had decided to store under my passenger seat the week before.

I have the same problem with my 2011 Clubman S with 11,000 miles on it. I find it hard to believe that the AC filter would be the culprit on a car 1.5 years old. And the smell is definitely related to hard acceleration only. I typically shift around 4000-5000 with moderate throttle. If I give it full throttle and shift beyond 5000, el stinko.

I pulled it out and left it out, and it still makes that smell. I think it's the a/c coil itself being damp until enough air blows through it to dry it off.

Probably not as old as you think. I'm early Gen-X, but grew up in a somewhat backwater area surrounded by old and abandoned poultry and dairy farms (and nearly on the cover of Led Zeppelin I, FWIW--Oh, the humanity!). As a result, I track more late-Boomer for my musical tastes and media exposure and don't really fit in either group well.

The fact that few remember that name makes it a great for signing up for online accounts....

So is your screen name in reference to the comment in "Space Cowboys"?

It's taken from what we called an old Austin Mini in a sports car club I once belonged to back in the '60s. We were inspired to name it that based on it's dexterity negotiating the cones.

Ak, k. You might enjoy "Space Cowboys", in any case, if you haven't seen it.
