Actually, It's quite handy in the rain at a toll-booth! - and it comes in handy when you need to keep hands on the wheel as much as possible. ;-)

Yeah, just wait until you get your arm stuck in the window on auto-up

I have to say, it would be painful, but in the many years of owning other cars with auto-up, it has never happened. Guess I would have to put down the latte' and stop steering with my knees! ;-)

Window up done

I installed the 'window up' from Ian and it's wonderful! Even the better half was impressed.

Ian - a HUGE Thank You! We installed the auto-up in both MINIs - we love it!!! The directions were easy to follow - works like a charm.

Chow!

Bought my auto-up module six months ago (anticipating inevitable car purchase, installed two on different friends' MINIs, and tonight I finally got to install it in MINE!!
Picked up the car in Virginia last Friday - would have installed it then, but couldn't bring a screwdriver on the plane. Could have used it on the W.VA turnpike! Even managed to install the GDO without having to move my auxillary gauges.
I love this mod. Now that MINI offers a GDO for $200, I just get to laugh as my windows rise on their own.

Ian, have you had a batch made yet? Several of the Sin City club are jealous of mine and want auto-up circuits in their cars. Any idea when they'll be able to get them?

Still working on the pictures and writeup - gotta shrink 'em down so they don't do to NAM what the auto show did to Motoringfile!

A note on the install - I mechanically jammed the GDO, checked it, and buttoned everything up. But then the GDO didn't work. Pulled it apart again (I'm getting good at that!) and discovered the jam wasn't as effective as I thought, and had to re-do it. I would recommend soldering a connection, if possible. Soldering irons are cheap, and it can save some angst.

When I installed my GDO circuit, I shorted the pins of the switch with some fine wire. It's been working happily for almost a year now.

I agree Eric - and the couple I have done for people (who mailed their opener to me) I have soldered.
But the idea of the 9V powered is for people with no soldering capability.

Are you coming to AMVIV? If so, you should bring some with you.

If not, after things die down a bit here, I'll put together a group buy (save on shipping at least) and install a bunch here in Vegas.

Actually I *am* going to Las Vegas  , but not in time for AMVIV

I am going on a work-paid trip to Conexpo, arriving March 16 for two weeks. A little work-related seminar visit, a lot of play

I love Las Vegas (although I don't gamble) - staying at the Mandalay at the beginning, Bellagio at the end, seeing "O" and the new "Ka" and renting a car (not a MINI); current plan to head over to LA (we've been pretty well everywhere else on previous trips).

Ian, if I can work out the details with the local club, would you be adverse to bringing some circuits with you for the Sin City members? Unless they don't like x-ray machines or something?

The circuit goes through x-ray machines just fine, and even the TSA doesn't mind them. I brought the circuit and a garage door opener in my carry on luggage - since I bought a one way ticket I got the advanced screening. I was sure they were going to look at me funny for having the circuit - if I was TSA it would look suspicious to me, but they didn't seem to notice.

I've got previous plans, otherwise I'd join the fun at AMVIV.

I had to let my boss go to Conexpo because I'd signed up for AMVIV! How weird is that? If you get out to the Coast, let us know, we'll meet up. Rent a new 'Stang and get yer kicks on 66. Still love that auto-up!

Spooky! Curious how suddenly an extra link appears ...

BTW, I was just enjoying myself reading your Washington & back travels, when all the pics vanished then a "bandwidth exceeded" message appeared

If you would like somewhere else "out there", like jordan, let me know

Just bumping this thread... I got my auto-up circuit in the mail just in time for a weekend install and it was PAINLESS!

Great full-colored instructions included with a variety of methods covering pre-'05 and '05 models, super easy to install and it worked right off the bat. About the only thing I could suggest is figuring out a way to protect the beautiful circuit board from dangling around inside. I partially wrapped mine in bubblewrap to cushion it from being accidentally beat up.

Anyways, if any other owners are spoiled by previous cars (e.g. BMWs) that had one-touch auto-up, this is your solution!!!!

Thanks Ian! :D

I installed Ian's "magic circuit" in my 04 MCS last night.

What a dream! This thing is great. I also bought the optional auto fog light piece. Both were easy as pie to install and worked the first time thanks to Ian's detailed, and colour instructions. The only thing that I did different was I quickly realized that doing it "blind" without removing the toggle panel was going to take forever, so I took off the down tubes and pulled out the toggle panel. From there I could easily see and get to everything.

Thanks Ian! Great job and well worth the money. Keep up the good work.
