Your thoughts on a '04 Cooper S Works

I am on my way to look at an 04' S works with the asp Getrag and 91K miles,
Since i will be there last before place closes means I can wait till the morning to think about it,
Super clean with the Works package,
They are asking 11.9K
I can offer 10K cash at most
Really don't want to finance.
What is a reasonable price to pay for vehicle?
I can't find info on what they have been selling for since it seems like the Works cars are not real common.
And it is worth a premium over the normal "S" cars?
OK,
I am off to look and take a test drive,
WIll check back here before I leave the place.
Thanks all,
Peter

JCW on gen1 cars was a dealer bolt-on...could diy it...
most folks look for the engine kit...the pre 2005 car were 200hp, 2005 and up 210 hp. Was a coated sc (std on all cars after 2005), a exaust, and more agressive tune...and a head that was mildly ported by cnc....these cars also got a plate with a kit number.
many cars got one or two jcw items, but not the whole kit...and folks try too sell them as a jcw...some cars got the jcw brakes, or steering wheel, or dash cover, or suspension, etc....VERY FEW CARS GOT THE FULL TREATMENTS ..$$$$, but rather a bit of jcw bling, and hopefully the engine kit...imo it is NOT a JCW car unless it has the engine kit.
condition is what will determine the price ...espically on a JCW....was it a commuter, a track car or a youth driven car....lots of things to try to determine by looking at it...has it been modded, matained regularly...by a dealer perhaps, a owner or 3 rd party. In all honesty, some 3rd party shops know gen1 cars better than the dealer, but some shops do more harm than good. Good luck, but imo, get the car looked at by a decent mini shop...if it is a good car, great, but there are others, plus the findings will give you negogation power!! And remember, there are other mini's outhere...

theres a LOT of miles on that one dude. I agree with zippy, take it to Mini, ask them to look it over.

does the owner have all his service records? ask mini if they will provide them. almost everything but the engine should have been replaced by now. if not, watch out...

My opinion based on being in the market earlier this year and looking at a few. The JCW package at least engine package adds to the resale. Maybe $500 or 1000 for an enthusiast. It is basically the same as a modded MCS. Great for someone who wants the mods but not worth anything extra to the average buyer.

A 2004 most likely has the 200hp engine package. The difference between the 200HP and 210HP is bigger injectors and a different tune. You can tell if it has the JCW brakes by the red calipers with JCWorks decals and the suspension has red springs. The engine is the big deal. I don't think 90K miles is a problem IF it was maintained. There was/is a black 04 JCW on a lot in OKC with an asking price or $10,500. It has 120K miles and unknown maintenance. The 2005 and 2006 will be more expensive and are better cars (gearing, LSD etc). I looked at a 2005 with 58K miles at $13,000 and I bought a 2005 with 7K miles! for $17,000. The 210 engine package, brake package and suspension package were installed on my MINI for the original owner, at the dealer in 2009 (4,000 miles) for $9.500.

If the car was maintained at the dealer, go for it. Take the VIN to the Dealer's parts counter and they can print the records.
loving mine,
Michael
