Now that the engine is out...

Hey there everyone, Back in January my engine threw a bearing and I now have the engine out.

There's your problem right there https://vimeo.com/41840812
what use to be a bearing https://vimeo.com/41841095

Since it's out I can pretty much change or fix anything I need too.

The car is around 95K, and by the looks of it the power steering has a leak somewhere and the dipstick tube seems to be leaking around the base (is there supposed to be two O rings on the tube?). The clutch is in excellent condition.

Let's assume I'm going to keep the car for the next 5 years.
Any suggestions on things we should replace while I'm at it?

The car is around 95,000 kms, and by the looks of it the power steering has a leak somewhere and the dipstick tube seems to be leaking around the base (is there supposed to be two O rings on the tube?). The clutch is in excellent condition.

Let's assume I'm going to keep the car for the next 5 years.

Inspect throw out bearing. There's a tendency for these to go out prematurely.

Can't tell if you have an S but I would check both ends of the supercharger fluids.

Replace LCA and front sway bar bushings.

Inspect thermostat.

There's one o-ring at the bottom and one at the top of the dipstick.

Fantastic thanks!
It is an S and will do for the supercharger
As for the dipstick, currently there's only one O ring on the actual dipstick tube where it inserts into the block. There's two impressions for a ring and it looks like there should be two.

It's been a while but I only remember seeing one. Below is the diagram as well.

95,000 Km and pulling the engine? Yikes, that would pretty much ruin my Mini experience to date. I'm of the opinion the engine should NEVER have to be pulled under normal driving conditions. The frame ought to rust out first along with the seats falling apart long before the engine or transmission (not including the clutch) need to be yanked out and worked on. In this day and age, anything less is the mark of a junky car.

I know of cars where you have topull the motor just to replace the turbo and timing chain. Really depends on how the motor is set up.

Leaks happen at the crank and cam sensors, but if they are good, I would probably leave them.

T-stat gasket goes bad so if it is original, that would be on the list.
