Autox Mini vs STi

I have a buddy with a modded STi. Every bolt on known to man but stock turbo. Racing Coil-overs etc. Him and my fiancé trade a lot of smack talk about whose handles better. Upcoming Autox event and we are going to attend. With no suspension mods and 16% pulley, BPV and CAI, new hancook ventus V12 rubber should she be worried lol? I know power wise it is no comparison but in a tight course where your only in 1st and 2nd... She has a lot more seat time than him but neither have participated in a Autox event.

I'd bet that both will have tons of fun, and that the cars really won't matter much.

First autocrossers are generally 5-10 seconds off the pace on a 60 second course, and how much improvement occurs run to run varies a lot depending on the driver.

Perhaps both will get hooked on the sport!

You're right i'm sure they will have a lot of fun and I'd really like to see her get into it more and maybe do some suspension mods at some point. I normally drag race but i'm going to give it a go in my daily. Looks fun.

STi should take it.
Both drivers should learn alot and will see their times improve greatly during the day.

Autox is 90% driver, if not more. Whoever drives better / pays attention to instructors better will win. If you want to win, get there early, find a pro, walk the course, ask for advice. Walk the course until you can do it by heart with your eyes closed. Walk it until you can draw it out on paper.

The MC has been called a 'devastating' auto-x package more than once, and dominates it's class. I think on a 60 second course you're probably talking about cars that should be dead even.

+1 the driver wins the race not the car. Good luck and do your best and most importantly have fun.

If you don't have an lsd you're going to get smoked by the sti. Auto X is all about braking the latest, carrying the most speed through the corners, and getting the power down as quickly as possible upon exit of the apex. Open diffs fry the inside tire and lose seconds in overall time very quickly. The order of importance in AutoX is: Driver/ LSD/ Brakes/ Suspension/ Tires. HP means almost nothing in Auto X. Good luck.

I went and checked the ProSolo results for this year and given the mods listed, the cars should be within a second of each other on a 60 second course. It's all going to be down to who drives better.

Thanks guys all that sounds good. I am not sure if it as a LSD. Anywhere to look on the car to see if it does? Code or anything on a door panel??

If you are not sure if your car has a LSD, then it probably doesn't. Not really a common option from my experience.
