I have taken this in to have the SES light looked into and have replaced the o2 sensors many times. Now the code states:
130 DMW: Oxygen Sensor (bank 1, befor cat.)-malfunction.

I also get a575 DME: Cruise Control, input malfunction, short circuit to positive.

As well the Airbag light is on again for the 20th time.

Replacing the o2 Sensor is not working. I have replaced the wire harness.

What else may cause a faulty o2 sensor (befor cat)


BTW we are starting to smell a slight exhaust smell in the car now and it is getting 23 mpg.

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak. Fix that first and then move to testing sensors rather than just replacing.

 

Hmm, likely the exhaust manifold? is that possible to get to without pulling the engine? I checked yesterday with engine running from in front of the car and couldn't tell if there was a leak. The smell seems to happen after the car warms up a bit. I wonder if something is getting into the venting system, or if a backed up catalytic converter would cause this.
