Will you mind paying $2.00 - $3.00 per gallon of gas. Muscle car and oil war don't mix too well.
I would get the MINI. But I am bias. Of course you would not get as much attention in the Mustang, you would just blend in with the masses.

well mustang is TOTALY different then a MINI in all ways. i aint tryin to be rude dawg cuz i kinda like stangz myslf.

Well its hard for me to point out the cons of a MINI but heres whats grate about it:

The glovebox can keep stuff hot or cold, like food or drinks
The MINI is begging to be modded
and There is so much 2 list

NoStOp,
You gotta figure out who you want to be. Tough to do sometimes. I don't wanna sound rude, but joinin the Marines, at 18, you probably wanna be seen more as a muscle car kinda guy than a MINI kinda guy. 'Stang is about power and toughness, MINI is about smooth and cool. Brute force vs. finesse. At your age, I was all about strength and power, too. Joined the Rangers. Had a 68 LeMans, 350. Now my son is your age, and I wanna have a blast throwing the little go kart around.
Whichever you pick, you will love. And regret not picking the other one from time to time.
Cheers,

NoStOp,

Aloha and welcome to NAM.

Great choices but very different. We have young military guys in Hawaii all the time with fast cars. While many do choose Mustang, Camaro, and imports it's so common.

We do notice a few choosing MINIs! Mostly MCS and then modding.

The mustang GT is all about-
Being an american muscle car with power but heavy and not light on it's feet.
American reliability, fit and finish.
Better straightline speed.
Has more and cheaper mods available.

The MINI and MCS in particular-
Has the retro european look and feel
Is different but can be made to look aggressive and serious
Has BMW reliability but is English built
Provides excellent handling and corners great but lacks the tire burning straightline speed.
Mods are more costly but we have some really good ones to choose from and some really powerful MINIs as a result.

For the sheer fun of driving the MINI is far better.
Good luck with your decision, either way you'll do fine.

If you do end up with a MINI get some really light weight wheels and really sticky non runflat tires.

If all you want to do is go really really fast in a straight line, then get the 'stang.

If you enjoy driving with style and finesse, and love to toss people around in the curves, then the MINI's for you.

Two completely different vehicles, with two completely different driving styles. Drive 'em both and see which one fits better. Just don't forget to take both around those curves!

Does the Mustang have the V-8 or the V-6? The V-6 is a dog and the V-8 is cool.
tell you what to do, drive both of them onto a freeway on a clover leaf ramp. Then decide......

thanks alot for all the response everyone. i really appreciate it. see i love the idea of getting a mini because i know it'll stand out and i know it's quick because i drove a friends mini and fell in love with it's aggility and it's platform. i know i would have a ball. the reason i'm interested in the mustang is because of it's new engine and because thats all i've ever known. my first car i drove was a mustang and when i was 16 my parents got me a used gt. so it's about time to change a little. i've been driving them since i was 13 and i need a change. not to mention i love curves lol. and well the mini puts me on the edge when speeding through curves. thanks agian everyone

NoStOp,

My $.02 here...

Please don't think that money is not an issue since you joined the Marines. You'll be making less than $1200/mo. basic pay for a couple of years, and that's before taxes... I'm sure you'd like to have a girlfriend, right? Believe me, they're more expensive than cars! Look around at your peers: the ones with the newest cars will typically be broke all the time. Having a nice car doesn't mean having a new car.

Not that I would ever want anyone to be without a MINI, but you should really consider buying a used, reliable car that you can modify. I'm kind of biased, but a MKIII Supra (1987-1992.5) can be had for $3k - $5k (in great shape if you're willing to look around). A few hundred bucks in mods and you'll have a solid GT car that will outperform most Mustangs easily... and the seats are some of the most comfortable I've ever sat in.

Ultimately, it's your choice, so good luck.

Cheers,
Mike

yea i know that i'll be making 1200 and bellow. beleave me i've checked all my finances. i'm lucky because i've been saving for college and since i'm not going to be paying for college (goverment is paying for it) i'll be using the money instead as a down payment. i've already started budgeting my money on the base as a PFC and i've looked around fro insurance and found the one i want. it's only the matter of which car.

Some advice on cars and the Corps. First for the car- MINI. Now for the Corps, try and wait until you get your first duty station, unless you are a reservist. I am a Gunny in the Marines and just left a training command. I have seen Marines buy new cars, then get orders to Japan for a year. So now they have a new car sitting in the states while they serve overseas. Hope all works out for you in the Corps.
