Resetting computer averages

Can someone break down how to reset the average speed, MPG and so on for the on board computer?

I see a lot of how-to articles on resetting the oil service, which I need to do, but I also want to reset the other variables as well, and I don't want to be pulling the battery terminal to do it :P

Also, they appear to be separate: meaning, if you reset the avg speed, the avg fuel consumption doesn't reset. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Did it before heading off today for my first little drive, and I did have to reset them both separate.

Thanks! That was really simple, I should'a been able to figure that out on my own! :P

Correct. Select the one you want to reset then hold down the button till the numbers evaporate. That way if you want to 0 avg speed for a particular trip but want to leave avg mpg running for a lot longer, you are free to do so. The same holds true with the trip odometer. The only thing I'd like to be able to reset right now is the price at the pump...and a couple of honey-do's.

Hah, I'm actually pretty happy with this car at the pump on the first tank, my old car averaged around 22mpg, this one looks like it'll be getting 28+ and that's fine by me! Cruising on the freeway I'm mostly seeing 36-38 on average under the 'constant' mode and around 21-24mpg in the city constant. I imagine a nice day, flat ground, and freeway fill up to fill up can probably yield a solid 38-40mph on cruise control.

Almost looking forward to driving along my yearly trip to Las Vegas now, 570~ miles, could almost make it on one tank of gas at that rate! :P

You should compare your MPG on the on-board computer with the miles driven/gallons filled method. I am finding that my OBC is showing about 2 mpg high. In other words, OBC shows 28 for the last tank, and I am calculating 26. Still good numbers though!!

I find that it works out to about 10% above the actual calculated-from-miles-divided-by-gallons figure pretty consistently, to the point that it'd be nice to break into the programming and build in a "fudge factor" to dial it in at least close to correct, if only there was a way to access the code and adjust that.

That said, I'd also like to enable the "instantaneous" MPG setting and the others that my ex-GF's '04 MINI had in her computer readout list on my '03....

C ya,
Dutch

Don't set it on "Cons Ave MPG" as this will drive you crazy as it changes so much it can become a distraction ..............................................
