Orange brake indicator light

Came on this after noon when driving to lunch. I have searched and been unable to find an answer.

How long do I have to change my brakes once this light goes on? My r53 has 54k miles and I am going to Huntington Beach, CA tomorrow am.

Is that a change NOW type of light or you have 1000 miles type of thing.

Before they had the local MINI shop built in my hometown I had to drive over 200 miles to the nearest one. At the time the light went on (two brake jobs ago) I was under warranty and needed to travel to the shop. The dealer told me the distance left on the pad varies on your driving style but that it is more of a reminder that your getting low on pad life than a "do it now" light. I think you will be fine unless you are doing some kind of extreme driving on your trip. I drove over 800 miles with the brake wear indicator on while waiting for new sensors to ship and no damage was caused...just take it easy
