SRS Sorry if this sound like a repeat question

The red SRS air bag light is on on the dash of the 2002 Mini S.
I've read the posts and almost universally the problem is a bad connector under the seat. I think I have something else going on and am looking for guidance.

The problem does seem to be associated with the circuit with the yellow connector. The Fault on the B800 reader is "side air bag front right side"

I have been unable to clear the error and have tried the following:

- Connected three 10 ohm resistors in parallel for 3.33 ohms at the plug with no luck

- Cut the plug and soldered the wires directly.

The faul will clear for a moment but comes right back on.

Has anybody had similiar issues or issues with bad wiring at the SRS module?
Is there a how to on pulling the SRS module?

Thanks
Charlie

Once the airbag light goes off, it must be cleared. It will not go out by itself. If anyone disconnects the seat without removing the battery, the light comes on and stays on until reset.

You can have a dealer do it, of get a cable and install the INPA software to clear it...or there may be other programs that do it too. I just did it last weekend. It took about 8 hours to get all the software downloaded, extracted installed. Had to move the partition in the laptop, use ERD commander to edit a config file for DIS etc. etc. all sorts of little BS.

Once the software was in it too less than 3 mins to clear the code. Go to SRS and read codes. Push button "clear codes" ...done.

I can clear the other codes

Thanks for the response. I do have the B800 code reader for the srs system and can clear codes with it.

The fault light does go out for a moment when I clear it but it comes right back on. That leads me to believe the fault is still there.

Disconnecting the connector and putting in a 3.3 ohm resistor doesn't help either but it does lead me to believe the problem isn't in the seat or connector.

Is the known problem with the bad wiring harness connections at both ends of the wiring harness or just at the end under the seat?

Congratulations on getting your own system set up and cleared.

Update: The red light has been on for several months now and I have an inspection coming up. Tonight I did some trouble shooting. I unplugged the yellow connectors from both seats and ran jumpers from the passenger side wiring to the drivers side seat and vice versa. It is still throwing the same code even after I clear the error but I know the problem is not the under seat connector or air bag it self.

Does anybody have the pinout for the air bag module under the e Brake?
Before I run off and buy a new module I would like to check continuity between the module connector block and the under seat connection.

Depending on your build date (and problem) there may be an extended warranty for your problem. You can see in my top post that MINI replaced a bunch of things. Hurry- time is about to run out on these early models. If you can document the problem has been happening for a while perhaps you can get them to cover it if you have an early build.

Thanks Valvashon, I wish I found that out before I commenced voiding my warranty.
The good news is that by criss-cossing the leads between the passenger seat and the drivers seat I was able to rule out the air bags and the connectors as the culprit.

That left only the wiring or the MRS module. I picked up a used, non crashed module from the auto recycler for $150 and installed it this evening.

The persistant illuminated red man with the big belly is no more!!!!

Given that a new key cost around $200 and a head light bulb goes for $100 I think I got off easy.

One last comment, the wiring diagrams on bmw-planet were very helpfull.

Charlie F, any way you can give steps to follow when installing/replacing MRS unit. I have to do same on my 05 MCS R52, I was involved in a accident with no air bag deployment but have red srs light on. Thanks.
