R50/53 I can't find my car!!
Hey guys--
My dks/dks mcs is currently held up at the VPC in NJ. The car has been there since 2/17 and I'm starting to get a little (ok, a lot) antsy. Is there anyone I can contact at the VPC to get an idea of what is going on? My dealer doesn't really have any useful information other than telling me that it is delayed.
Help!

Hi Vin -
just relax, it's only been a week. When my car came over in 8/02, it ended up sitting at the VPC for about a month. After a couple weeks with no update, I too was getting nervous. Especially since my friend's car which was on the same ship showed up at the dealer and mine didn't. The dealer was able to find out via their computer that my car was held up for repair of transit damage. They get some kind of report (seems like about once a week or so) which tells them about the status of every car ordered. My car had a "1-3 inch scratch on the hood". I guess they either replaced the hood or repainted it a the VPC. When the car did arrive, it was flawless and I was very happy.
The VPC hold time seems to vary with lots of factors, mostly based upon how many cars they have coming in and out.
The "Estimated Delivery Date" on the website was pretty accurate, once they sorted out what needed to be done. It's only updated about once a day so you don't need to check it all day long.
I've been there, it's not fun, but it will be here soon. Good luck!

Generally, delays at the VPC are due to waiting for an issuance of the Certificate of Origin, and not for damage repair or "racing around the parking lot" (got lots of laughs out of that one). Just take it day by day and realize that there is some stupid little git in the UK holding up your car's delivery while he does his paperwork.

Sometimes the folks at the VPC like to disconnect the odometer and race the MINI's around their parking lot.. . . .
Is it actually at the VPC or waiting to get to the VPC? My car sat on the pier in NJ for two weeks before it made it over to the VPC.
This time last year both the Bayonne and Port Hueneme VPC's had large backlogs. I believe turnaround time at the Port Hueneme VPC was close to a month this time last year. I know it sucks, the wait is the worst right about now... but your car will come PROMISE

Actually, that git works in New Jersey at BMW/MINI USA headquarters. And this certificate of origin delay is the one where your car arrives at the dealer but they can't sell it to you because they're waiting for the certificate to come from NJ. I know, this happened to me and I was hopping mad for about a week while everything got sorted out.
Vin's delay is probably just due to an overloaded VPC and/or they're giving his car an extra once-over (or two).

VDC has been described as the "black hole". Seems as though cars can sit there forever waiting for whatever needs to be done and the paperwork. What is important is that your Mini is there and will soon get all the attention it is due. Patience is tough, worrying is destructive. Be busy getting all your goodies together: insurance, financing, shift ****, roof graphic, the stuff to detail your Mini; declare your spot in the garage and clean it up, hang your Mini Only Parking sign; begin to accept reservations for rides from family, friends and neighbors. Get your Mini grin perfect.
