Weird starting issues- common problem?
Been on forums for about 10 years now. Mostly 240 forums. My 2006 MCS is my dd though. Its been great. Put 30k miles on it my first year having it. Left for a deployment back in March, had my wife and my father-in-law driving up the road (enough to get it up to NOT) once a week or so. About a month ago my wife called me and told me she thought the battery was dead, it wasnt starting.
No one I could trust was around to troubleshoot for me. So I said leave it and I'll fix it when I get home. I have searched but couldnt find anything with my exact symptoms. Ill keep it short
Battery tested at 12.8volts @ 677 CCA
Everything works - no power/battery issues
Engine grounds are good
Oil just changed - perfect oil level no leaks
Start ENGAGES the flywheel but does not turn over
Not the typical clicking you hear with a bad starter
Oil changed twice a month.
Thinking the starter solenoid was good but the starter motor itself was bad i tried to pop start it with the clutch
Dangerously, desprite, and frusted, dragged it with a tow strap at ~15mph
locked up in first, second, got the tach to read 1500rpm when i popped it in 3rd gear.
Tells me the starter probably isnt bad
the motor isnt locked up unless the tach reading was some electrical craziness going on.
that one of my accessories/supercharger is locked up.
I'm getting desprite. Im going to tow to a friends garage tomorrow to start digging in to it. But I'm not familiar with these motors at all. I do have a factory service manual on PDF thank God. I'm just trying to get some insight so im not spending days in the garage chasing a common problem. i just got home after not seeing my wife for 9 months so I really want to get this thing fixed
