R50/53 06 MC selling price question
06 MC selling price question
Looked at an 06 Pepper White MC the other day
98,000 miles
5-speed manual
sun-roof
Leatherette seats
Very clean in and out, no rattles or issue during test drive
Has auto-climate package and fog lights
I really liked the car but would rather walk than pay too much.
Has a few stone chips on the hood
Dealer is asking $13,500, is that too high considering the mileage?
I was thinking about offering $11K.
I prefer the non-S model for the fuel economy and not having to worry about replacing the super charger.
Thanks !

I paid 15.5 for my 06 with 45k on it on Nov 1st. R53, HIDs, Leather, sunroof, heated seats, new tires, not a scratch on it. 1 owner, no accidents or repainted Panels, literally like new.
That's from a Mini dealer. It was less than most of the other used ones in my area and in better shape. Plus I negotiated about 1k higher for my trade than I was able to get anywhere else and a great interest rate.
I feel good about my deal, I got exactly the color and options I wanted in the condition I was looking for. Buying a used car is more than price, its the total package since you are also buying the previous owner. All things considered, I'm happy with mine.

According to KBB - Retail is about 12. Private Party is 10,300,
Haggle until you get the price you feel is reasonable and acceptable to you.
Good news is that these aren't rare cars so if the dealer won't give you a good price you can always find another.

Sounds like they are too high to even try to get them to come back down. They might have too much into it from a trade-in deal. My R50 with under 39k miles was between $9k and $10k (don't recall exactly, in Feb, 10 months ago).

I bought my '06 Cooper just under two years ago with ~22,000 miles on it for $16,800. The car market here is higher than most of the US it seems (comparable '06 Coopers at MINI/BMW with similar or higher mileage were priced at around $22k.)
So, for that many miles, I'd say that's a pretty high price.

I found some info about an 03 MCS listed.
It still has the original Power Steering pump and clutch at around 91,000
Should I be concerned about replacing the parts in the near future?
Thank you.

That's all dependent on how it was driven. I've read on here about people getting 150k on an original clutch. Sometimes more. I've also read about people needing a new clutch at 30k.
Sorry to keep pestering everyone with some questions but I sent a counter offer to the dealer with the 06 since I spotted another one in Alexandira VA, Dark Gray that has about 80,000 miles for $11K with a sweet looking leather tan/black interior. I mentioned this car and his reply was as follows :
The one thing I can see is that that car has a 2 person owner where are MINI is a 1 person previous owner. The MINI in VA had a first owner that drove it for 76000 miles and a second owner that sold it after only a year? The MINI we have here is a one person owner with a pedigree originally purchased with Flow. Comparing used cars can be a bit tricky where small details like popular color can be a big factor. Pepper white and Chili Red are the most popular and the best selling colors and tend to get a bit more. Our MINI does have the cold weather package that offsets the sports package a bit as well as the premium package they both have. Yes, our 06 MINI has a bit more millage but again, only 1 owner purchased here at FLOW with a service history that we know.
He states that he proabably cannot match the price.
2 owners does not bother me and the "Cold Weather" package is not a necessity for me in NC, just one more item that can break with age.

Alnost sounds like he's talking down to you in that email. If he can't come close I'd walk away.
2 owners doesnt mean anything. A one year sale doesn't sound out of the usual either.
I've found that most buyers want one,buy it, love it and keep it until they decide to buy another. Or they want one, buy it and find out it doesn't quite work for them for various reasons so they sell it or trade it in.

I paid 12k for an 06 s, with 58,000 on it. Dark silver loaded up with just a couple minor dings. I am quite happy with it. Been about 4 mod. since purchase. I purchased from a high line import car dealer just outside Phila. Pa. I think the price quoted is way high!! I looked until I found what I was looking for!
Suggestion, do a comparable search for an 06 Cooper on autotrader.com, within say a 200-300 mile distance to determine if there are any other 06 Coopers available in 'your neighborhood' and see what their price-points are set at. Good Luck in your search.
(FWIW, I bought my 06 Cooper 3 years ago on Dec 31, 2008 here in Madison, WI, used 36K miles for $14K, but Madison is a high-end price market though...)

Thank you everyone again
I will pass on the 06 MC at the dealership unless they match my offer for the Mini and my VW trade in value.
Salesman is a Newbie, been there about a month or so but he is a current MC owner with an 04MCS since new.
Actually found another one I am interested in listed on the NAM classifieds that is also in the VA area that is in my price range.

something you always need to keep in mind is that SOME dealers when the take in a trade they put the vehicle through an inspection...So by installing maintenance parts and covering technicians labor time the price of the car may vary thats why retail is always higher than private party

Good point.
The car the dealer received was just traded in the day I checked it out, not sure how much time/parts they put into it .
They now have the car listed on the website for $13K, not $13,500 when I originaly looked at it.
Yeah, I am back again.
This is the Pepper White MC I am mentioning about, going to meet the salesperson soon to discuss the price & trade in.

I like the car but I am hesitent now because of the mileage.
In about 4 years the car will have 140,000 miles.
I am also checking out a local 05MCS with 73,000 miles for $11.5K
Have a happy Friday everyone

Good News
Took the 05 Blue MCS for a test drive and all went well.
Place lowballed by on the trade in for the GLI so I told them I would think about it.
Get home, potential buyer checks out the VW, loves the car and wants to replace his 170,000 mile Jetta and offers me $4,000 more then the dealership. He will pick it on on Tuesday.
The MCS has the option with the Speedometer behind the steering wheels and the oil, temo etc gauges in the center pod.
