boot around piston on front caliper

I have a 2005 Cooper S. long story short I punctured the rubber boot that sits around the piston in the front passenger side caliper. My knowledge of brakes is pretty limited(pad & rotor replacement on cars other than mini). Does anyone know what that part is called and how I would go about replacing it?

I am on a very very limited budget.. that being said please dont recommend the service manual to me(its on my xmas list). I called a few parts stores and they cant even get me replacement calipers let alone parts, and my local dealer isnt open again until monday. Does anyone know if there is a bmw that has the same brakes? Maybe the parts stores can get me parts for bmw.

Thanks for any help.

You have to buy the brake caliper rebuild kit to get the part.

It's just called a dust boot.

34-11-1-512-711 We sell it for $28.

You just peel the old one off and pop the new one on. One end attaches to a groove on the piston. The other attaches to the edge of the caliper.

You may need to push the brake pedal SLIGHTLY to extend the piston out enough. Dont press it too much as you will pop the piston out of the caliper if you do it too much.

A small tear in the dust boot isnt all that critical. You can put the caliper back on to drive down and pickup the part. Overall, this isnt that big of a deal.

Thanks for the info but I was able to fix it. I bought a rebuild kit for $3 at the local parts store that came with both the dust boot and the o-ring for the piston.
