R50/53 Steering wheel not straight
I recently had the steering column replaced at the dealer because of clicking and I've noticed that the wheel center if off--MINI logo angles down on right. Does anyone know how labor intensive it is to correct this? The dealer already thinks I'm like Adrian Monk.
When I picked up my '04 MC last October, the steering wheel was not straight. I brought this to the dealer's attention, and they ended up doing a wheel alignment a few days later. Also, I'm about to take my MINI in for the steering wheel click.
Mine came that way from the dealer. Steering wheel lists about 10 deg to right on the straight road. Unfortunately I did not notice untill I was on the highway, the Chicago dealer just closed, it was getting dark, and I had 350 miles to get home (sounds like the Blues Brothers). I hope it will be covered under warranty at the 10K service interval. Since the nearest dealer is 250 or 350 miles away I would like to know how long to factor my appointment for. In people hours, not dealer hours.
I just had my steering wheel replaced under warranty due to bubbling of the leather. Assuming that the dealer is just removing the wheel to shift it over by a spline or so, the time for the swap is measured in minutes as there is no need to disassemble the MFSW components. The center pad simply snaps off and the wheel is secured by a large center nut like any other wheel.

1) "Monk" is my favorite. (C'mon, doesn't EVERYONE count the telephone poles as they whiz by?)
2) Alignment (actually RE-alignment from the sound of it) should be no biggie. So you'd miss a halfaday of work as opposed to 86'ing a whole "vacation" day.
The caveat here which could muddy the warranty work waters (ooh that's a wouthwull)might be your "acceptance" of that first repair to the steering column.
If you get car-sick in your MINI, do you take "MINI Motrin" ??
