Sorry things didn't turn out the way you thought they would.
Here is a breakdown of all three of the MINI spoilers. The Aerokit spoiler is totally different than either the Cooper or Cooper S spoiler (see below)

>>in you guys expert opinions, is there really a need for the rear spoiler other than for looks?
>>i'm getting ready for my next mini, and i was thinking of taking the spoiler off the S....
>>whatcha think?
No need other than looks...........but I think a spoiler looks good.

Thanks for the pics Dave! I was looking for just such a comparison. I like the Aero spoiler by far the best. You're right- the line is perfect- flows with the car much more- gives motion as well, even when standing still it looks faster. Something else to consider is the S spoiler with the "hole" in the middle aids in getting the boot of your MINI extra dirty, extra fast. Coopers with the solid spoiler don't have this problem as much, but it is still a problem. So, if you have an S, the Aero spoiler might help reduce the dust and junk piling up on your MINI's backside. I was surprised to find out the spoilers are attached using adhesive! Hmmm.

You're correct, the Aero Kit spoiler is only attached with adhesive.
The COOPER S spoiler is attached with 3M sticky adhesive AND two thread studs that go into the hatch. The nuts are accessible under the black plastic caps (you'll see those when your hatch is open if you look just above the hinges).
I'm not sure if the COOPER spoiler is attached with studs in addition to adhesive.
As for hatch cleanliness, I haven't noticed any change with the Aero Kit spoiler compared to the S spoiler. It's still filthy back there.

Just remember that if you have the COOPER S spoiler removed, you'll have two holes at the top of your hatch that will need to be filled and painted. Those holes are used by the COOPER S spoiler's threaded studs.
