Me and my MCS turned a few heads this weekend driving to/from Long Beach

Trailer & boat weigh in at about 800 lbs combined. Trailer tongue is ~60 lbs, all well within limts of the BMW Class1 trailer spec. Driving was very easy, loads of power during hill climbs (gearing down when necessary of course) and the stiff sport suspension made a big difference...the front of the car did not lift up like on my old Rabbit GTi that I used to use for this same trailer/boat combo. The hitch was purchaced from CrashKarl on this site...see him for more details.

That's a great pic! It looks like your boat is 3 times as long as your MINI.

That's cool! Get pics of the launch ramp next time, that would be so neat! You have the right idea for using your MINI to the max!

The hitch is a custom job made by a guy on this site (crashkarl). He was selling them in the Marketplace forum...not sure if he has any left:

Didn't use the trailer to launch off of this time...since there was no ramp. We used a beach wheel dolly to launch the boat. My regular lauch area in Ventura harbor does have a ramp...I anticapte no problems as I used to do it all with my old Rabbit GTI....the mini is much more capable (though I might have to shut off the DCS...don't want power dropping off if I get wheel spin right at a crucial moment...a stall could cause the car to roll back into the drink!).

Hey, I resemble that remark!

I also agree, very cool! I can only imagine the looks you get. It makes me want to drop everything and go sailing.
