R50/53 Total miles your MINI has right now
193 miles.
Breaking it in obviously. I know to keep the RPMs below 4500 and speed moderate. However, as much as I want to vary being in and out of Sport mode, I can't seem to drive it without being in Sport mode. All the popping and banging is such a hoot, even in and around town, at 30 mph.
Is it ok to break it in with the Sport mode on all the time?
Thanks

Popping and banging, on the other hand--why are you getting that? Either you're very rough on it and unnecessarily using lower gears and engine braking, or something's "off."
And you really have only 193 miles on a Gen 1 car--2002 through 2006 model years? Something's wrong with that picture. Your screen name suggests you have a newer car.
What kind of MINI do you have now?
Sport mode only tightens steering and quickens throttle response, at least on Gen 2 cars. Won't hurt it a bit, nor does it have anything to do with breaking it in. I prefer sport mode for another reason--I get better shifts, especially at slower speeds. Don't know why, but I do, and I've seen similar reports from other drivers.

2014, brand new. I replied to the thread without regard to the sub-folder name. Please forgive me.
My 2009 Clubman S 6-spd manual had only 20k mi on it when I purchased it in April of 2011. It now has 54k mi on it, all fun miles. I own four vehicles and drive the Mini most of the time. My plate says "FUN WHLS" and I mean it!

My '02 just went over 100K last week. As it was rolling up 99,999 my iPod, playing on shuffle through the stereo, was playing "Don't Worry, Be Happy". When it hit 100K "Carry On My Wayward Son" was playing; irony? Whatever....
