Is my 2006 Mini Cooper S a interference Engine or NON-interference ???

I recently found out these are not interference motors.

 

How about the R50 (with higher compression ratio, more likely to be an interference engine than the R53)?

 

Thank the Lord.........Just had timing Chain and Tensioner problem..........Literally stopped working on the highway...

So the odds look a lot better now. I really hope i dont need a new motor.

 

You'd definitely hear it if the valves were hit.

 

Very Very good to hear that the R53 is a non interference motor. Makes sense, being such a low compression motor.

Makes me love our Mini!

 

Just had the chain, tensioner, guides, and oil pump replaced on mine. Caught it before it failed completely. Keep us posted on how yours works out.

 

well mini is still in the shop..............getting pretty upset with this whole thing. I JUST bought it (used) but it was only 4 days old!!! :( its been in the shop more days than i have drove it.....
But now im getting mixed responses to my question. 1 Mini dealer in my area says NON-interference, Miniblucabrio says its NON Interference, but now 2 Mini dealerships told me ALL minis are Interference. I'm LOSING my mind while its in the shop getting worked on. I find out 2moro if there was Valve damage.
I was driving 120kms/hr while this happened. I didnt hear anything "bad" so lets pray everythings good.......... I'll keep you posted.

 

The R56 motors are interference. Luckily I caught mine before it broke but it was still a pricey repair bill Hope yours is okay and there isn't any other internal damage.

 

WELL, today i found out that the car wont start... (after they put the timing chain ack on) during a compression test 2 cylinders were at 30ish and 2 were at 60ish............Does that mean ALL the valves are done????? or could the timing be not set properly. Its not at MINI, my warranty people wouldnt let me take it to them. Im freaking out.

 

OH BTW , 10 valves bent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG , i think im gunna be sick..... :(

 

so i guess this answered my question ...... interference or non-interference???? DEFINITELY INTERFERENCE......... im sooooooo upset right now.
