R50/53 can this just be buffed out or something...
The Audi TT takes its name from the successful motor racing tradition of NSU in the British Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race. NSU began competing in the TT in 1911, and later merged into the company now known as Audi.[9]
The Audi TT also follows the NSU 1000TT, 1200TT and TTS cars of the 1960s in taking their names from the race.
The TT name has also been attributed to the phrase "Technology & Tradition".[10]

Sorry for the lose of your car.
I looked up the TT thing before, thought it was twin turbo too.

Looking at the pics the impact was up high not bumper to bumper, I highly dought there is unibody damage. I would let the adjuster and body shop look at it, once you get the body panels off you'll be able to see what is really damaged.
If you really love the car bring it back to life, I had an 84 Z28 that went air borne landed in a ditch, ended up looking like a banana with the doors pushed into the quarter panels. Had it repaired drove it for 10 years, without issues.
My MINI has been in 3 wrecks, 23 hours after taking delivery was rear ended, required repaint of bumper cover, in '07 the wife rear ended the F-450, required new radiator, hood, bumper cover, in '10 was backed into in a parking lot, repairs required new passenger door and quarter panel. You look at my car and without me telling you, 99% of people would never be able to tell it was repaired.
These cars can be repaired and provide years of safe and enjoyable fun. I would not write it off without really looking at it. Crumpled body panels look worse than the damage really is.

Wether the car is "totaled" or not with be up to the insurance adjuster, unless the OP does not want to go through insurance. And the decision will be entirely financial, a comparison of how much it will cost to repair it versus how much the car is worth ... and your love for the car will not be a factor.
If the insurance company refuses to have the car fixed, and the OP wants to take a settlement that includes keeping his car so he can fix it himself, I would check carefully on future insurance. Some insurance companies will only offer liability coverage on a car with a salvaged title.

I could easily see repairing a car in this situation if it was paid off, has any sentimental/love value, and can be repaired in a manner that is not too difficult (not much unibody to be repaired, just bolt-on parts). A totaled car is not so right to go out and buy a new car. New car = higher payments or payments in general if it is paid off. Or a used car can be a crap-shoot. Let's see what the adjuster says and go from there.
And you know this how, I guess my 2 experiences were flukes. Both cars came out of the shop as good or better then going in.
The OP stated he wants the car repaired, it is most likely paid off, there for buying a new one would cost him money.
I really do not think the damage is that bad. BMW can work magic and make it look like it was or better.
I really can't believe I'm on a MINI board having to fight to save a MINI, we should be ralleying around the member supporting him in keeping it on the road.

I say fix it! Bring your baby back to life!
My wife, parked at a traffic light, was tapped by a lad on a 50cc bike (bought that morning, being followed by his mom to buy insurance).
He made a dent the size of a small dinner plate behind the passenger's door (Cad, cpe de ville...OLD)
Our insurance guy asked me how bad it was...I thought...figured $300, said $900.
He sent me to body shops (3) all of whom looked from the doorway, scratched their heads and said,"Totalled"..one nice guy gave me a written itemized estimate, over $3,000 and counting. One item was $960 to replace the padded top...turned out to be a smudge of motorcycle grease..10 seconds to remove.
$300 to replace the tiny little chrome lip top of wheel well RR, plus labor.
Insurance totalled...paid $3,750..and sold me the "hulk" for 20% or $750.
Shade tree bumped out the dent, matched the silvery white pearlescent paint! found a tire wheel and Cad phony wire hubcap..total expense the $750 plus $400.
Suffered along without the chrome trim sliver for two years...sold coupe for $3,500.
Insurance companies in our state are required by law to offer the totalled car back for 20 or 25% of totalled value..I THINK it is 25% up to 4 years old, 20% if older.
Shelter, btw, whom I heartily recommend.
Re: R53. Got one. Love it. Would not CONSIDER repairing from look of your pic .
Now if you can get salvage parts for peanuts...THEN, go for it.
I'll buy your seats.

it's goodbye.......for now
OK! the update........
Mercury Insurance will not be denied! Lol! They basically totaled it out, the supercharger had a huge hole in the front lower portion of it and the intercooler was cracked. the estimate to replace those two items alone was quoted more than the cars value. So they cut me a check for 12,500 and paid off my loan balance on it and i got an Audi A3 the following friday. a weeks turn-around time, not too shabby Mercury.

i just couldn't bring myself to get another mini. im not gonna find one like the one i had and i don't like enough of the newer models :( best 6 months of my life.
