the 539 will work...is easier to install...but once stretched is more likely to slip...(should be finethe though) no worries..just toss on a 535 length belt next time!!

well, i picked up a 535 this morning and the shop called a little bit ago leaving a message that the wrong belt (the one i bought this morning) was shipped. so he found the correct one locally (probably the one i returned) and said it would be ready by EOD. just curious, how long do serpentine belts last? when should i replace this one?

thanks for the help!

i had an alta 15% sc pulley installed the other day on my 2006 MCSa, along with the alta tensior stop. everything went fine, but last night, i noticed at idle, there is a some rattling coming from the pulley area. when i put it drive or reverse, it gets a lot louder. is my belt tensior loose? or is it the tensior stop? they put on the 060539 belt, but at idle, the belt seemed to be turning fine, and the pulley was spinning very smoothly. should i swap out the belt for the 060535 above? i am going to record some video and post it up for you to hear.

any ideas???

It appears to me the NAPA belts are of fairly hard rubber. On my car, it sounds like the belt is slipping, but after a couple of minutes of warm-up, it goes away. It does that even with a brand new tensioner and new belt.

hmm, maybe its nothing. it sounds more like a rattle than a squeal. i'm going back to the shop next friday for them to check it out. it drives fine, but i didnt' want to hurt the car and need to solve the rattle, if possible. thanks for your comment!

If you feel aftermarket belts, you will notice they are a bit more pliable than the mini oem belts..

Strength...who knows, but most suggest replacing belts on cars with a pulley annually...there is simply a smaller area for the belt to contact the pulley...so even the expected wear rate is a bit higher on a pulley car....
Sometimes belts can squeal a bit to missalighnment.....
Some tensioner stops can add a bit of noise...the alta one made lots...was partially redesigned to help...the cable ones are silent.
Some folks have found that Goodyear gator back belts help if the missalighnment is minor...the backing is not thea traditional rib, but a series of shorter stripes.....

thanks for your input zippy. what do you mean by 'cables ones are silent'? if the issue is the alta tensior stop, should i look into a cable one?

If the noise is comming from the tensioner stop...it might need adjustment....but the nature of the alta stop is that it can vibrate...make sounds...
Detroit tuned, and a few others make a simple piece of cable, with a loop on each end...if the tensioner fails...it limits the amount it can extend to the length of the cable..

Simple...
Cheap...
silent...
