R50/53 Anyone elses leather looking sad already?
I got into my car the other day when it wasn't dark (this hasn't happened for quite a while) and noticed my drivers seat has lots of small cracks starting in it. At 25k miles! And I've lexol'd them probably 3 times since I bought it in august. I expect leather to wear, but not quite this fast. My last 3 series was 11 years old and had 170k on it and the leather still looked good.Should I try something besides lexol?
I'm not thrilled with the Mini leather. I have the Lapis, and it has this constant dirty look to it now. In hindsight I should've gotten the red cloth (love the coloured door panels)... but dunno if you can even do that on an IB/IB S...

Lexol is a pretty good product, the problem is the low quality of the MINI leather seats. Reason #1 I went with the no cost Leatherette in both of my MINIs and the seats still look showroom fresh, no sagging, cracking or peeling. BTW, I use Vinylex, a Lexol product, to clean my leatherette seats.

I have lapis leather.
I had the front drivers "seat" section.... replaced already.
It was extremely wrinkled and I had no issues at the dealer w/ the replacement.
The new piece is holding up ...well
Peace,
D

Lots of gripes with leather. You should search the threads that are out there for more info.

I have the profile leather (w/ the bumps) and it looks like the day I got it. There are a few creases on the sides, but every car w/ leather gets this. I never use leather cleaner on it either; it makes it look shiny and I hate that. I get a rag and use alcohol to clean. I enjoy it.

I think the profile leather will hold up better than the Lapis Blue leather.
I treat and clean my lapis blue leather every month. I have some creases and a few small wrinkles at 10,000 miles but it isn't too bad.

I have the Gravity black leather and in only 6 months/2800miles it already shows significant wear. Small creases and some wrinkling on the bottom part.
I try to be careful getting in and out and be cautious of sitting on the side support when doing so.
It is obviously cheap leather, similar to that in my friend's Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is DEFINATELY not the same as in a BMW 530i.
Oh well.
