Ok, so this made me laugh for a long time tonight....
I was at the gas station filling up Holly when someone yelled over from the next pump "Hey! Is that one of those new electric cars?" Think about it. I'm sure after she realized that she asked me if my car was electric while I was standing at the GAS pump that it was a pretty stupid comment...

Actually, the electric cars available are all hybrids so you could see one of those new 'electric cars' in a gas station...

I had drained my gas tank one time into a bucket when a dog ran up and guzzled all the gas down, then proceded to run around in ever decreasing circles and finally turned over on it's back, dead!.......It had run out of gas!!!

Supposedly that's something that happens all too often in the US: to the average American mindset (whoever may define it), new small car = electric. You should read Car magazine's trip through the US in a Smart... people asked that exact same "is it one of those electric cars?" questions. They also couldn't seem to grasp the concept that a car didn't have to be big to be fun, and that "petrol" is NOT an alternative fuel type.

When the MINI marketers talk about the SUV backlash, they're not doing so without justification...

You are right on! It's always been that way here in the U.S., .... as far back as I can remember. I expect that driving the MINI will be a similar experience to the one I had in 1974, when I bought a brand new Honda Civic while living in rural Texas. Talk about culture shock! The Good Ole Boys/Girls couldn't believe it when I'd pass them at 90+ in the tiny Civic! Now, when I talk about the MINI that is on the way, the most common comment is "Won't you be scared to get in an accident with a big SUV?"

I just shake my head, chuckle and walk away.... Before kids, I owned, successively, a 74 Civic, 74 Fiat X1/9, Mazda Rotary Pickup, 76 Civic, and Renault Le Car (yeck!).

Except for the Renault, all were great cars and I never felt unsafe!

For me, the MINI is the ultimate expression of what I wanted the Civic to be back in 1974....

This has happened to me several times too. Today, I had someone ask if the sunroof was where the photoelectric cells were. I guess they assumed it was solar.

Wacky.

I had the same exact thing happen to me yesterday! The only difference was I was getting a car wash at the gas station and the car wash guy asked if Lucy was electric. (he was holding the reciept with the gas charge as well as the code for the car wash in HIS hand!!) We told him no. He asked what it was then after we said a MINI we had to explain what a MINI was. Then he said, "oh, well its kinda cute, I guess"
