Maybe it's just me, but it seems that whenever I fill up my MCS, it seems to run nicer and smoother after. Is it the new fresh gas? It's like I just fed it! Or is it a psychological thing, and nothing has really happened except the car getting heavier? Does replacing the gas more often contribute to better fuel economy? Is there such a thing as bad aged gas after it's been sitting in a tank for extended periods of time?

gas can go bad, but afaik, it takes weeks/months not days.

maybe you've got some funk in your tank that gets sucked up when the fuel level gets low?

Haha, that's funny that you say that, because I feel the same way when I fill up my tank. Sometimes it feels smoother.

If you go to the pumps that have all three grades coming out of one nozzle, you might be getting some lower grade fuel than you want. Chances are the guy before you got 87 octane, and then you press the 91 octane button, but your first gallon might be a blend of 87.

Anyway, just a thought...

Yeah just tonight I filled up my gas tank, drove off and thought "hmm.. the car is different, kind of nicer when it's filled up." I think it might be some sort of smoothness thing, but hey, I can say for sure, when I am very low on gas and it's a cold evening, the car has some very brute-like power!

After you fill it up, it weighs more and rides smoother!

all other things being equal your car will run faster with less weight, so my guess is anything your feeling is purely in your mind.

I actually tend to find the ride a tad sluggish when it gets under half a tank. A full tank always makes me and the MINI happier and i would agree... a smoother ride.

Other than road trips, my tank never gets below half so I couldn’t say.

i noticed this when running the Dragon (US129)
we start out in the morning with a full tank
and as the day ran on i noticed that she would start getting a little loose
and to test my theory i filled up the tank and ran it again and she felt like she handled better

It would have to be a weight issue then.
