That's about average for a daily driver of that vintage. Sounds like what you're looking for is someone's weekend toy. That really limits the number of cars available. If you are patient and willing to travel, you should be able to find what you are looking for.

They can go a lot of miles if taken care of. When buying a used car things like finding your favorite color is hard to do. Buy the car in the best condition regardless of its color. Many MINIs are weekend toys. You should be able to find a low mile 05 or 06. They are out there. Good luck on your search.

Regarding your question "what u need to look for in this mileage and what mileage they can handle"

Are you looking for a "S", or what we call a "Justa"?

S- Equipped with superchargers, sc's on a 70-80k mileage car, think about a replacement in the near future

Any car with 70-80k is when maintenance parts begin to go-
Clutch
Brakes
ect

Known problems for our cars are-
Powersteering failure

Please other people chime in and list more known problems/what he can look for before he buys. Also there is a "search" button top right of our page, if you search for anything you will find it. Your questions have been asked more than a few times(a month lol)

Best of luck to you

and dont mind Achilless Honor, i heard that guy is a nut and will never make it a couple more months till he actually gets his MINI!!!!!
Hes already obsessed!

Common faults with '05/'06
1. Weak strut towers in front. Check for deformed towers or commonly called mushrooming.
2. Thermostat gasket leaking. If it is an 05/06 and has a white gasket it is only a matter of time before it will leak. Mini had a gasket change that is now opaque.
3. The cooling fan has a low speed and high speed. It is very common to have the low speed stop working.
4. Power steering fan is in a bad location and will pick up dirt and debree and stop working. Another common fault and can kill the power steering pump.
5. Front top motor mount. It may start leaking fluid and need replacing.
6. Some 05/06's had a problem with clutch noise.
7. Front lower controll arm bushings would probably need replacing after 50,000 miles.
8. water pump gears are driven by the supercharger. If it runs out of oil it will not take long for the gears to get eaten. This is a potential problem for high milage cars.
9. Quite a few cars have had a failure on the plastic overflow tank leaking.

Thats all I can think of at the moment. Fix those items and you'll have a ride that is as reliable as a Honda or Toyota and a lot more fun to drive.
Steve

Keep in mind a car forum people dont post like
"i just had a fantastic month, my car is awesome and its trouble free"
people on these forums will normally say the bad like
"i hear a noise, what could it be?"

Basically im just trying to say dont get scared and turned away from the bad you see on any car forum

^ exactly wut he said. Cars with 50,000 miles and up are going to have more maintenance compared to a newer no matter wut brand or car you have. So as long as your into taking care of your car. Then your car will take car of you. Money wise

Where are you located? It is no trouble at all to find any MINI you want in Florida with 35-40K. I just purchased a 06 MCSc with 38,000
Also no rust issues here.
You might consider a road trip to the south!

so i can find them but want to find them with low miles..

I got my 06 Justa a few months ago with 19.5k and love it. Got luck and found a pure silver with black top. Just what i wanted. Ive been all the way over and under her and only have a little clutch noise. Ive been told thats mostly normal.
My only real problem is the MOD purse isnt deap enough but havin fun anyway.

I just recently purchased a nice low mile 2005 S, 188k miles, bone stock.

This weekend I removed the front end of the car to repair a leak, and while I was in there to inspect the dreaded PTO gears on the end of the supercharger.

Mine look like brand new, oil level was fine, no signs of wear, original supercharger.

Just sayin....
