What happens if....

A silly question and I may be in the wrong area but thank you for reading. I've only had my 2005 MC for a short while and am wondering what happens when the "Service interval" miles reach 0. Does a light stay on, does it need to be reset or like in some cars does it just go off?

I'm assuming that because the service interval miles are at "oil service 13,900", that it was reset not long before I bought it. Not knowing if it really had been properly serviced, I still had the oil changed and several issues taken care of. However,,,the miles on the indicator have not been reset since I've owned it. I just wondered what it does when it reaches the 0 mile mark.

unless you reset it, the display will go to negative numbers and flash and in all probability generally annoy you

Good news is you can reset the counter yourself

bad news is unlike the counter in my Honda's the procedure is NOT in the owners manual nor is it what I'd call easy. Not rocket science but sometimes I think I need three hands to complete it.

good news is finding the procedure here is a GREAT way to get comfortable with the search function

bad news is I'm gonna leave you with that - try search & learn a little but if you get frustrated PM me (another learning experience) and I'll reveal the secrets and even the hints for when "it will NOT work for me "

Service Reset:

!)Push-hold Trip Button (TB)
2)Turn key to position 1
3)Continue to hold (TB), the number 15A will show to the teft of the milage
4)Release (TB) for 3 sec and then hold (TB) again
5)In about 5-8 sec RST will show in the left corner
6)Release and then hold again;15000; will show, press and release
7)Car is now reset to the 15,000 service - (has completed 10,000 mile service) and will count down from 15,000.

Thanks Capt bj,
I had a time programming a second key and I'm sure it'll be much more to do the reset. I was really curious about what things happened at mile 0. I've kept my own mileage-log, repairs, dates, etc. and I'll just hope I can figure the reset out, when I get there.
Kathy

love your car

spoiler!!!!!!

ok - why does the new miles to go come up with a different number?

NOTE - this procedure can be VERY time sensative and usually takes me 3 or 4 times for it to 'take'

If you don't reset the OBC countdown, what are you using as an indication that your car's due for "Inspection I" or "Inspection II"?
