My MINI will be here at the end of January but I've located another
MINI, is it possible to sell my deposit to someone else so I don't
just let the dealer have it? I guess I would need to talk to my MA
but I don't want to bother him yet. Any ideas?

You know, an Internet message board is a great place to get advice on all sorts of things; but this isn't one of them. Pitpass, what you need to do is to read the fine print on your sales/deposit contract and then proceed accordingly. None of us know exactly what you signed when you made your deposit...so none of us can offer informed advice on what you should do to get out of your deposit, transfer it, or whatever. Sorry, but in this case no advice is probably better than un-informed advice. Good luck!

This is just a guess and I could easily be wrong.....but I think you can get your deposit back. I don't think most dealers are going to insist on keeping your money if you don't buy. What have you signed?

i got my deposit back from a dealer but only had it with them for a few days...they were real good about taking it off my credit card...it sounds like you have had yours on an ordered car for some time now...i cant say for sure but its probably up to the dealer...it would certainly be in the dealers best interest to refund you since if they gave you a hard time you could go on the dealer rating system here and your experience could hurt their future business...you could always hold that over their head if they play hardball...business is business...aloha,paul

You need to find out what the terms of your deposit actually are.

My dealer would have allowed me to back out at any time and refunded my deposit in full. Otherwise it was applied to my down payment on the car.

It depends on the dealer, you need to talk to yours...

My dealership also would have refunded my deposit in full at any time, even after the car had arrived if I wasn't totally satisfied with it before taking delivery. But I was totally satisfied, and my deposit was rolled over into my down payment.

I ordered my MINI the 1st of September with a deposit on my credit card. It wasn't until I actually did all the paperwork on the car 2 months later that the charge appeared on my statement. When I called to ask the finance guy about it he said that (in Texas) the dealer can't really take money from a buyer for a car they have not purchased yet. So I guess if I wanted to I could have put a stop on the charge before taking the car then cancelled the order.

Non of you have read pitpass's question. He/she is asking if they can trasfer the deposit to someone else rather than just let the dealer have the car. Probably because the dealer will mark up the car with lots of dealer add-ons which isn't fair.
But I do have to agree with jsun. Pitpass really needs to talk to the dealer.
