I wonder how many dealers watched Dateline last night?

Sorry, It was about how car dealers bait and switch, over inflate items, miss lead the consumer. It made me think of some of the mini dealers, who are asking $ 1500 over MSRP, or make you buy floor mats for $200.

The show was informative. I agree with them, Dateline, when they suggest "never ask for financing through with the dealer." I always have financing pre-arranged with my bank before I start looking.

Can I have your floormats because mine cost $399. That's some expensive BMW rubber there!

Simply put, dealers don't sell very many MINIs each month. The allocation is very limited. Low supply is at work.
Demand is still very high. 95% of all MINIs sold are custom ordered so people are willing to wait months. IF supply is so limited and demand high then in our capitalist society what do you expect to happen? If you owned a business would you offer discounts in the face of limited supply? Nope.

Charge MSRP and try to give decent to good service in sales, aftersales, service and warranty work. Build a following of happy owners and name brand awareness in the community. I cannot fault dealers to try to stay in business.

Honda Odysseys are/were in short supply and way over MSRP when I was buying one in 2001. Same deal, low supply and high demand. In fact right now in Hawaii Christmas trees are the same way. Can you say $70 for a tree that was cut down over a month ago?

i watched that show...i got irritated when that lady started going 'tick tick tick tick
tick tick!' at that asian salesman . anyway, that show's probably informative
to normal consumers but for people like us wanting a car that requires a
premium to get immediate delivery, im not sure. i paid top dollar and took
delivery the same day. no regrets. i know if i waited for the next shipment
to come in with a 2months wait i could've maybe saved a couple hundred more
bucks...but i didn't care. there were no ib/blk with bodykit and r90's that i saw
at any other local dealerships in the area.

If I had my Mini maybe I would sell you mine. I'm waiting for it to be shipped up from Calif. I had it shipped across the country and it is taking forever to get from calif to Ore. Say minihune could list what aftermarket parts you have? You seem to have a pretty good idea of whats worth getting and not!

yah, i agree to that. i was able to knock off 1100bucks before we
shook hands. i still think i overpaid though, but i don't care. i like the
car enough that a little 'premium' cost dont bother me.

You all know that you are allowed to walk out the door without getting screwed. When I dealer tries to put it to me, I stand up and walk my butt to the nearest exit. They usually stop me and make a deal.

Can't blame the dealer for taking advantage of stupid people with too much money to blow IMHO, good on them.
