I've had my 2004 Cooper for two months now and I have a standing order
in with my dealer to change the power door locks. I don't like the automatic
locking. He says they don't know how to change the 2004 models. Next week
I'm having some other work done and I asked about the locks again and he
said they still don't know how to do it. Is it just them? Does any other Mini
dealer know how to reprogram 2004 Coopers yet? Why hasn't MCOA provided
the dealers with the ability to make these changes yet? :???:

With my 04 MCS, the dealer asked me if I wanted the auto lock at 10mph turned on or not, so that indicates to me that any dealer should be able to program it. Is going to another dealer an option for you?

I just called a different Mini dealer and they said that the
2004 Minis cannot have their power door locks changed.
So all of them lock automatically at 10 mph and there is
nothing you can do about it. I really don't mind the fact that
they lock at 10 mph, I just with they would unlock when you
stop and take the car out of gear. I also don't like having to
pull twice on the door handle to open it.

It is a slight annoyance, I agree. On Wed. I had v.36 installed. I asked to change this feature (actually they offered), but it could not be done after all.

But I was very psyched to get my "pathway lighting", which delays the headlight shut-off after you shut off the car!! I now have 40 seconds to get in the house and find a light switch  .

Perhaps your dealer needs to provide some additional training for his /her staff from MINI USA; or perhaps they should read the literature that is sent to them from BMW/MINI

I just purchased two 2004 MCS from Classic MINI in Mentor Ohio and both were programmed NOT to lock the doors when the vehicle reaches 10 mph...and that's just what they do.

One was programmed for daytime runing lights, one wasn't;
Both have the convenience opening of the windows & sunroof with the remote
Both have the closinging up feature with the key in the lock
Both had the "follow me home: headlights on feature activated.

And, had I known that the key remote could be programmed to open ALL doors with a single push, I would have requested that since I find it a pain to remember to push the "wings logo" twice, especially when you have to open the rear hatch. One of the persons in our group purchase of 7 MCS from Classic requested this,m and it was done, no problem.

What MINIUSA should provide to new buyers instead of cute messages is a list of all the programming choices to give to their Mini Advisor before they pick up their cars. Either post it at the Owmer's Lounge at MINIUSA or email it to the new buyer, rather than having to dig them out of the Owner's Manual on several different pages

Russiaville,

Your dealer may be telling the truth. After posting my previous message, and copying my MA, Julie Saxa in Ohio (I'm in California) called me on the phone and said that since my two cars were done, they have been unable to change the programming to do what you want (and I have): to NOT lock the doors when the cars reach 10 mph. They've tried and tried; and MINI/BMW says ."Oh well". I'm beginning to wonder if there's ever any ECU upgrade if I'll lose the programming.

I agree with you about the hassle of having to pull the door handles twice to exit. If theyu're gonna lock at 10 mpg, they shopuld unlock at 0 mph after you shut off the key. But the MINI central door lock switch on the console doesn't work when the key is off. Go figure. AND, you can't lock the door by pushing the door buttom either!

Julie is not aware of any plans by MINI to allow their cars to be programmed as you desire. Maybe this is something for the NAM membership to address.

Charlie

My 04 has "auto-unlocking with ignition off " programmed on Oct 2, the day it was delivered.
The dealer is MINI of Peabody in MA.
It makes auto-locking a non-issue because 95% of the time when I need to open my doors, the car has already auto-unlocked. Unlocking occurs when my key is haflway between ignition 1 and 0.

What I really want programmed is one press of the remote "wing" to unlock all doors. I have not heard of anyone who actually got it done...... Oh well....

My 04 with a 10/10 build date has autolock at 10 MPH, when I shut the car off it unlocks both doors and boot.

Remote unlock with key, 1 push drivers door, second push all doors.

Comfort opening also works with remote.

My dealer was able to program it to NOT lock. I have a 9/19 build with delivery 11/1. They forgot however to program the follow me home lights and the gas light beeping when it comes on for the first time. I haven't heard much about the gas light here though. Anyone have a gas light that beeps when it turns red (on a 2004)? I had this on my Passat and really liked it. I think I would especially like it on the MINI since the gas light is so low profile.

If I have the dealer fix my other programming options, I wonder if it will wipe out my NO autolocking feature. I really don't like it when locks do this.

I tried twice to get Momentum in Houston to turn the auto lock feature off, and they couldn't do it. They didn't mention anything about ignition off unlock. That would solve the problem.

Katana,
Peabody just gave me the one press to open all...but they cannot stop the 10mph locking...go figure. I think this is new to the v.36.
